I see that you can buy a cloth pail liner specifically for the Ubbi, but I am reading some reviews that say the liner wears out after just 1 or 2 washes. Anyone use the Ubbi with a pail liner from elsewhere?
Do you use a different diaper pail? Just a regular trash can?

I have never heard of the Ubbi...we use a basic plastic trash can with step opener and a large wet liner (we have two so we can rotate). It's worked just fine for us for 20 months!

We've had an Ubbi and two liners for a year and they aren't a problem. The problem is that diapers don't fit that great into the hole (especially extra thick nighttime diapers) so when we shoved it in there, we were getting poop all over the hole entrance and it wasn't holding that many diapers beacuse i wasn't goign to stick my hand in there and shove it in there. So now we use the Ubbi for liners/wipes/trash and we use a stepcan trash can for regular diapers with the Ubbi liners, which works out way better b/c we can just open it up and stick it in there

@bushelandapeck: It's a diaper pail like the Diaper Genie or whatever, but this one you can use any bag in them, so I was wondering if it would be possible to use a wet bag from a third party instead of the Ubbi one.
My DH is afraid of the smell of dirty diapers and while I've told him many people just use regular trash cans with no issues he really wants pail specifically for diapers.

Well the ubbi is stainless steel with a rubber gasket. Just like a regular (good quality) trash can is. They don't stink any less than the other, IMO

@pui: Ooooh, got it. That makes sense. You could also use the large zipped wet bags if you don't want to use a trash can. We've done that when we've taken DS on trips and wanted to use CD and they contain the smell just fine too. I have a small stick on air freshener in the bottom of our trash can and that probably helps some too.

@bushelandapeck: I'd really prefer something I don't have to unzip or untie everytime I change a diaper for everyday! Sounds great for on a trip though.
Maybe a regular pail with some kind of air freshener would satisfy DH.

We did a wet pail, so we just used a plastic lidded can and I kept it full of water. I am not even sure why I decided upon that solution, to be honest.

@pui: I was just looking at the Dekor at Target which has reusable liners you can put in it which should be great for cloth diapers.
We loved our zipper wet bag that hooked onto the changing table. No smells ever but I would be interested in something larger for when baby is home full time.

I don't know if a regular pail will keep the odors at bay. I feel like you'd need one that locks in the lid (like what @autumnlove suggested) so that odors don't escape. We used a diaper genie for LO's disposables, and one time her room had a noticeable odor when i didn't realize that the bags had run out.
We also used wet bags (i looped the zipper with ribbon so opening/closing it was really easy) and they did a great job of containing the smells. Plus, i could just throw it in the washer easily.

I would be worried about the narrow hole of the Ubbi, although I would think most wet bags would fit fine. I think we are either going to do the Dekor or just get a step on trash can.

Just a quick note: We used a trash can as a diaper pail. We have potty trained and now, we find underwear in the real trash can in the bathroom.

It's really basic and I bought charcoal inserts to keep the smell down. In almost seven months of cloth diapering, we have more issues with smell with our nighttime disposables than we do with the cloth pail. We have two PlanetWise wet bags that we rotate. For really messy diapers, I just lift the lid instead of trying to get the diaper through the hole.

We use the ubbi for cloth diapers. We were worried about the reviews you mentioned, so we bought planet wise cloth liners. They work great.
The biggest con I see with the ubbi is that it's pretty small, which means we end up washing our diapers more often than we actually need to. I'm not sure how the other diaper pails compare in size.

Step can and large wet liners! I just throw them in with the diapers when I wash.
