I don't really understand the article. It says "the more liberal travel restrictions won't allow for tourism." So...only business travel? Seems weird to partially lift the restrictions. I would consider going there one day. It's so close the US and I LOVE Cuban food.

Nope. It's a banned country for DH and I because of work.
eta: Everyone was talking about the cigar possibility at lunch, tho!

Hmm...so we will be able to purchase Cuban cigars? Potentially? My husband will be ecstatic.

@ShootingStar: The news interviewed several Senators and they all keep talking about how American tourism will help the Cubans. So, I'm guessing tourism is on the table.

Probably not, no...I mean, the allure of Cuba, at least to me anyway, is the fact that it's still in the 1950s.

If it opens for tourism, heck yes! It's probably like a 45 minute flight for me and I know quite a few people who have been and who have loved it. Plus, Cuban food!

I think this is a huge deal for our part of the world. I'm happy to see such a huge shift.
I'm not certain I would travel there right away, especially with a child. BUT, I am an advocate for enriching my life (and my kid's lives) with travel ... Not sure why I wouldn't eventually visit a place like Cuba (if it's legal).

I think its a huge deal! I am so excited. I would love to go to Cuba. DH went before he came to America (aka it was legal for him at the time!).

I'd go - not right away though because I'm sure it will be flooded with US tourists at first. But I love Cuban food and it is so close.

This is wonderful and long overdue. However it seems that we are reestablishing diplomatic relations and not actually lifting the embargo:

Not for a while, but yes, I'm super interested in visiting! I had a friend do a med school rotation there and he loved it!

@Katrocap: true, Congressional approval is needed for that, bit it's definitely a goal of this Administration.
@lemondrop: a friend of mine studied abroad, she stayed in a hotel the entire time and instead of leaving cash tips for the staff she gave them tampons because she read those products were limited on the island
My local news is showing how divided Cubans are on this. From what's reported it's very much a generational divide.
