If you ever choose to board your pet or take them to a day play, they will need to be fully vaccinated. I'm not really qualified to answer all of your questions, but our dog is fully vaccinated.

My thoughts on pet health usually stem from the question, even if you keep them indoors or on a leash, What if something happened and they got out?

I get mine fully vaccinated. If something happened to them that I could prevent with an inexpensive vaccine, I would have a hard time forgiving myself.

They're indoor only, so they get the "indoor schedule" according to the vet. I don't think it's a FULL vax

Our pets are both fully vaxed based on the recommendations of our vet.

The dog is fully vaxed. I haven't taken my cats in this year yet, so I'm sure they are behind.

We full vax our dog. She is boarded a few times a year so she has to be. I wouldn't not vaccinate my kid, same goes for our dog!

Mine gets everything except for boardatella (kennel cough). DH's parents usually watch her for us if we go out of town although when we need to board her, we need to take her in to get that one too.

My fuzzball got all his shots, and tolerated them just fine. I'd also make sure to keep up on heartworm meds. I know someone who lost a dog very suddenly to heartworm

@littlejoy: if we didn't board them we'd skip at least one shot.

We are usually upto date with all vaccinations since we travel often and need to board our dogs. Though, if it's been 6 months and we haven't traveled, the dogs bordatella vaccination might lapse until we travel again.

My older dog got kennel cough once and was so sad seeing her cough. I think she got it right before she got the vaccination.

@littlejoy: We don't have pet insurance, but I have heard from so many people (and vets because my cat is an asshole) that it IS worth it.

@littlejoy: haha I believe so. My cat likes to have exploratory surgery because he eats things he shouldn't and he can't digest them. I've wanted to get it, but just haven't and now he has a few other health problems that I think would make it harder to get now. I WISH I would have done it when he was a kitten.

@littlejoy: OMG shop around for your vet! I know cats aren't the same but it's under $200 for 2 cats! In fact my one cat just had some teeth removed and his whole surgery was $350

I think that it really depends on the vaccine. Some pet vaccines are generally regarded as safe and effective, whereas others are less safe or less effective.

Our dog is regularly vaccinated with all the "core" vaccines. Of the "non-core" vaccines, she only gets bordetella if we plan to board her and they require it. We skipped leptospirosis because we felt (and the vet agreed) that the risks outweighed the benefit. I think lepto is controversial because it only lasts 6 months and can cause serious autoimmune reactions. I can't remember what we did about Lyme...I think we have had her get that one, but I'm not positive.
