Last year I bought DD's coat from Zara and while it was okay, it wasn't the warmest. This year, I really love this one from J Crew but it is $155. DH will flay me if I even attempt to go there so I am hoping the hive can steer me towards cheaper equally warm alternatives that look just as lush.

@Arden: I'm worried that they are not warm enough! Winter was insane here last year and I have a feeling this year will be just as bad.

@plantains: I'm worried about the same thing! Winters in Chicago are brutal. We have a North Face one but it's on the thin side. DH thinks its warm enough because the quality should be better than other puffy coats but I don't know...I like feeling the PUFFINESS!

@kiddosc: Can you tell me which one you have by any chance? I've looked at 2 and even though they looked puffy, they didn't seem warm enough for crazy cold, especially since we walk everywhere and don't drive. I would love to fond one from Gap that actually seemed warm enough. Last year, I bought one from Zara and although it seemed warm initially, it definitely wasn't up to snuff.

We bought a 4-in-1 coat from Carter's and she has a North Face fleece. We figured she could wear the fleece insides in the car with a blanket and then we could zip her in the puffy part of the coat when she gets out of the car. We're expecting a bitter, snowy winter this year.

My mom just got the warmest puffer coat from gap, but I was going to get Lo a squall parka from lands end or ll bean.

@plantains: It's a warmest puffer jacket. It doesn't look super overly puffy, but the stuffing is very dense.

i find north face not to be that warm, but some of gap's coats are warm enough. pair that with a long sleeve shirt and a fleece sweater, and it's pretty warm! scarves and hats are also a must so i stocked up this year!

I love LL Bean... I bought DD their one piece cold buster suit as well as their Power Puffer coat. We needed something warm since it is very cold here in the winter. They are really well made and didn't break the bank!
