It only took us 7 months, but the nipple shield has been untouched for almost two weeks now! It just clicked overnight. T yanked it off and latched himself on perfectly without it. I didn't look back from there!
Super excited!

Whoop! It's so nice not having to remember to pack it when you take him out!

Yay, that's great! Did you see an increase in supply after weaning? I think my kids became better nurses which helped my supply once we weaned from the shield. I know you mentioned on IG that you were worried about getting through the next month. Maybe this will help him get more from you when you're together, even of pump output is still low!

Hooray!! That was a glorious day for us. I stopped getting milk all over myself, and washing the shield in the middle of the night. Congrats!

That is huge!!! Congrats! I gave up trying and used them the whole 18 months...pain in the butt! Glad you're free

@twodoghouse: a little bit! Not as much as I hoped I would see, but it's there! I definitely noticed he nurses more effectively. I'm pumping at 4am every morning to make production. It's working for now!!!

Hooray! So glad it's working out for you. Using a shield for 7 months = amazing commitment to BFing. You should be super proud!
ETA: ditto to you other long-term users too, I'm in awe! I kept losing mine and it was such a PITA that I struggled through the pain of a terrible latch instead.

Yay!!!
@Mrs. Deer: This is us at 10.5 months. I tried to wean from them around 4/5 months, but honestly, it never bothered me too much. It's all we know, you know? I try without the shield every so often and he looks so confused.

@Mrs. Deer: I did 18 months too! Part of me wants to not do it for #2 to save the hassle, but part of me is like eh it's easier to just use them

@lilteacherbee: yeah, I agree! It'd be easier without them but they were our normal so it was second nature!
@bhbee: I hope to avoid them this next time too but I definitely don't want to suffer as much/long as last time. I think I'd definitely pop them on at the first sign of things not working.
