I went in for my blood test last week and it came back positive with 6000+ beta. Went for my blood again this morning and we told my beta level was 3000+.
Receptionist told me she was sorry and asked I I'd like to cancel my ultrasound.
She didn't tell me what it means or implied and I'm freaking out.
What's wrong?! What's going on?

After a certain point, hcg stops doubling. It still increases, of course, but not so drastically. Is that what you are referring to?
ETA; I see you added to your initial post. So, she's saying you were at 6,000 and now you are at 3,000? I just want to make sure I am understanding correctly.

I would call and ask to talk to the doctor directly. Betas dropping is not a good sign, but your doctor should really discuss the results and next steps with you.

It is possible that a drop in HCG could indicate a miscarriage. I would call and speak with your doctor or a nurse to confirm the numbers and see what they think is happening.

No I went in for blood only.
She told me through email. When I call back it only goes to voice mail. So I sent and email back.
How worried should I be?
Last known menstrual period Dec. 26 2015.
Estimated ovulation Jan 16..
Estimated conception Jan 17.

I agree, call again and dont just leave a message. That is not something a receptionist should be messaging to you in an email.
Also for future purposes, I would 100% be switching to a new OB practice.

Decreasing HCG could signal a miscarriage. Definitely get your doctor on the phone ASAP to confirm the results. Good luck!

@stiletto_mom: I hope you hear back soon. If you don't, call again. It seems she is suggesting that your dropping numbers mean a miscarriage, and if that is what she is implying, shame on her for doing that via email.

@stiletto_mom: Is there an emergency line that you can call? If the office is closed, they should have an on-call line. I don't know what timezone you are in so hopefully they are just out to lunch. I would also suggest that you find a new OB no matter what because this kind of information in an email, especially with no explanation, is unacceptable.

I'm so sorry you are going through this stress. I would be asking for an ultrasound and calling them repeatedly. I agree that this is horrible bedside manner and I would be looking for a new doctor. This nurse has no idea if it is a miscarriage, a vanishing twin, or even a lab mix-up -- seems pretty cavalier in her response!

I emailed back asking if I could cancel the ultrasound after doing blood again next week.
Receptionist just emailed me back yes. She said beta should be doubling and that "dropping is not a good sign".

Ditto @ms.line: it's not an emergency because if it is indicative of a miscarriage and not a mistake, there's nothing that can be done. But I would call them over and over every half hour or less to get clarification. I'm annoying like that.
I hope you can get a hold of them soon and make sense of it. If you are miscarrying, SHAME on that nurse for delivering the news in an email and so vaguely. That's awful and I would give my doc hell about it and then find a new doctor.

Still being handled inappropriately (or rather bluntly), but I think a nurse is a normal person to call about results.

I just read your update. I am disgusted by that office, I agree with @catomd00: 1000%. I would demand to talk to the doctor for clarification and then rip them a new one. Probably in person.

@LBee: @JoJoGirl: I don't even think that matters much. Even if it's a nurse, it's pretty shitty to blindside her over email like that. In fact it's WORSE if it's a nurse because she should really know better.

There is a good chance this is a miscarriage if the numbers are correct. That seems to be a significant drop.
However, if you aren't having symptoms of a miscarriage, no, its not an immediate emergency. Your OB should speak to you about testing and how to proceed from here. If nothing else, they should see you in office today or early next week for that.

@stiletto_mom: I am so sad that your office is giving you bad test results by email and not phone.
Whether or not this indicates miscarriage, it is clearly a terrible way to treat their patient. I would go to a different office in the future. Whether or not you will have a miscarriage, they should not give you results that could possibly mean you might by email! Only normal lab results should go by EMR email.
It is not an emergency unless you are in pain and physically having a hard time, so you can keep working if your head is still in it.
Scary position to be in. I'm sorry you are going through this.
