My dad claims that my middle name was based (very, very loosely) on my mother's name. (Caitlin and Kathryn).
Dave was named for his paternal grandfather, and his middle name is his paternal grandmother's maiden name (which he shares with my FIL).

No but my great aunt wanted my parents to name me after my great grandmother. She had a very unusual name and I'm grateful they did not.

My middle name (Michele) was my mom's cousin's name. They were best friends. She died 3 years before I was born in a drunk driving accident. My mom saw it happen.

Yep, 2 different singers. According to my Mom, my first name is the feminine version of the guy singer's name & my middle is an old girl country singer's first name. (ironically, my last name now matches this girl's last name, so I almost have the same name as her lol)

My first name is a nickname for my grandmother's maiden name. According to my mom there was also a famous singer with my name but I've never heard of her.

My middle name is my great-grandmother's first name. But my parents found out shortly after they named me that my grandma had a sister who died young whose name was almost identical to mine (first AND middle)

A runaway who stole a car. My dad worked in a police station and saw her name on a police report (my first and middle name) and thought it sounded like a good name for his daughter that was about to be born.

@Danizaur: Wow! He must have been really impressed!
My first name is just a name they liked. It's one of the main characters in Dr. Zhivago. My middle name, they claim, is an amalgam of both my parent's middle names. But I'm fairly certain they figured that out later. I think they just like how it sounded.

my parents are apparently obsessed with themselves. my first name is hyphenated mom's name-aunt's name. my middle name is my mom's maiden name. my brother's name is hyphenated random name-dad's name, middle name is also my mom's maiden name. so ya my name is completely unoriginal and made up of family names. to complicate things even further, they decided from birth to just call me something completely different! thanks, guys!

My middle name is my aunt's middle name. We all 3 have family middle name. DH has his father's middle name as well. We are carrying on the tradition with honoring someone with our LO's middle name.
Our LO has a family name (grandma's maiden name) which is given to the first born girl in every family. Our next LO will likely have the middle name of DH's brother who passed away (either gender will be using Michael)

Nope. I was almost named Tonia, because my aunt loved it and didnt get to name her daughter that, but I wasn't. My name is literally like... just the one my parents could agree on. lol

My great grandmother and I share the same first and middle name (which happened to be a coincidence, my dad just really liked my middle name). My first name is also the same as my grandmother and my mom's best friend, and my mom's middle name. Surprisingly, my first name is also really similar to my MILs first name (to the point where she and I receive texts intended for the other on occasion).

My first name is the name of a (male) wilderness photographer who was pretty popular around the time I was born. My parents just liked the name. My middle name is the name of a mountain where my dad grew up

My middle was my mom's maiden, and DH's middle was his grandfather's middle and his great-grandmother's maiden. If we have a girl, her middle will be the same as mine, if it's a boy, he will get DH's middle.
