DD1 (24 months) is getting some girl Little People racers for her track, a TOOB of baby zoo animals, a toothbrush, a couple of dollar store sticker packs, a clementine and a couple of pieces of candy. I'm having a harder time with DD2 (6 weeks at Christmas). I think I'll go with a toothbrush (to keep on hand), a set of Sassy ring o'links, a wubbanub and a couple of headbands.

We picked up a bunch of stuff on Targets $1 rack yesterday! We got her some socks, a couple little wooden cars, a pack of dinosaurs, and some little hair bands with Doc McStuffins on them. They were all a buck each. We also got her a toy measuring tape (it's like 2 ft long, she's obsessed we our big ones) at Toys R Us for $1.99. We were thinking bath crayons and maybe some stickers or something too. Probably going to throw in a couple bits of candy or snack stuff and call it a day.

@looch: haha, or find a huge wad of tissue paper and stick THAT in first. My mom made my brothers massive 2ft stockings too, she used to do that.

@loveisstrange: haha, it was suggested before and I thought about doing that, but play doh is 50 cents a can and he loves it, so the bottom half is going to be that. He'd never accept the tissue paper, he'd be like "what the heck?!?"

Ours isn't practical--when we get practical stuff, we usually give it to her right away when we need it, so these are just little things we've collected throughout the year. We didn't actually spend anything on anything in her stocking (she'll be 11 months) because we specifically saved things for it. She's getting a stuffed little Nemo toy (part of a shower gift), stuffed bear (hand-me-down from an adult friend who got it in a raffle basket and had no use for a stuffed bear), and a Christmas board book (my mom gave it to us along with lots of books she got cheap at a garage sale so we saved it for Christmas). Also a lot of wrapping paper because we figure she'll be more into the packaging!!

She will be 10 months so I'm putting in a toothbrush, diaper rash cream, shampoo, puffs, socks, headbands, mini board books, first Xmas ornament. I think that's it!

We are going to hit up target $1 section, a tooth brush and I think I may start this orange tradition. It's pretty cute and a great way to remind children how things have changed. Also to be greatful for what you have because some people aren't has fortunate and would be thrilled for just a piece of fruit, which I know they take for granted.

@Mamaof2: that's what I've always heard - my mom likes to remind us every once in a while that when she was growing up you couldn't get all kinds of fruit all year long. You got what was grown more or less locally and in season - apples in the fall, berries in the summer, and citrus was available in the winter, but was kind of expensive since it had to be shipped so far.

I think oranges used to be a traditional stocking stuffer because they grow in the winter in warmer climates but would be rare to have in places like England. It was a special treat.
Anyway, I have already gotten:
bath toys,
bath crayons,
a train whistle
and this non-crumble play-doh like stuff.
I'd like to also get:

She got blocks, Frozen socks (3 pairs), chapstick (she's obsessed), snacks, toothbrush, crayons, markers, chalk (she's getting an easel from us for Christmas), and then I plan on getting her some bubble bath and bath crayons.

@sorrycharlie: The oranges are a traditional symbol of St. Nicholas. Legend has that he paid the dowry of a poor man's three daughters to save them from prostitution, and that he did so with balls of gold, tossed down the chimney. The balls of gold are traditionally represented by oranges, which is why they're a popular stocking stuffed and decoration/treat at Christmas.
