My closet ranges from size 4 to size 10 so I definitely feel you! I'm just starting to purge and have been ruthless. Everything that doesn't fit is out, the only things I kept were "goal" clothes - some expensive jeans and pants I'm hoping to get into again, some silk shirts and favorite dresses.

If they haven't been worn in a year, if it doesn't fit and probably wont fit again. If I look at it, but always pick something else to wear over it.

I go through this same issue! I did a huge purge when I was pregnant and we were making room for baby girl but there's still so much left to go through.

@Kimberlybee: I filled a garbage bag full of stuff to donate but I am having second thoughts...ahhh!

I used to have a pretty hard time with this, but after moving 6 times in the past 5 years, my rule is the same as some others: If I haven't worn it in a year, it gets thrown out or donated!

buy one, toss two, if you haven't worn in the last year of seasons, toss it.

If I don't feel great in it, it has to go. I have very few clothes now (just got rid of half of all my clothes) but they all get regular wear and I'm comfortable in everything. It's incredibly freeing and simple.

One of the advantages of small apartment living is that I pack my winter and summer stuff up every year because I don't have room for all of it at once. This means that I go through all my clothing one a year. If I didn't wear it it's out. Is really helped me keep things under control.

I was just having this conversation with a coworker. I need to do a major purge but I don't have the time right now and I also am "afraid" to get rid of stuff even if I haven't worn it in forever.

I always have a pile of clothes that I save for when I can fit them again. I'm at my Mom's house right now and I found clothes I've put away from junior hs and I did not toss them! -_-

I go through twice a year and throw things out, especially if they're two+ years old.

I try to go through them once a year, and sort anything I get rid of into consignment/donation piles. And then reward myself with one or two new things

Generally the 1 year rule - if it hasn't been worn it's out (unless it is a formal dress or something with a specific purpose).
I also have a shopping rule for myself, though, which helps. If I don't wear something that I've purchased within a month of owning it, I return it. If I can't get excited about wearing it immediately, I know I'll never choose it over the things I already have and love. (obvious exceptions: special event clothing, out of season footwear, etc).

I swap out my clothes based on the season so my plan for tomorrow is to pack away all of my summer clothes and get out the fall/winter. It is always a good time for me to purge anything I don't wear. I am expanding it to include anything I don't feel great in. Goodwill is going to get a lot of my clothes.
I like your shopping rule @rocker2014! I have been known to return things I didn't love after I got them home but I think the one month rule would be good for anything I am on the fence about.

If I wore it 2x or less in the past year it goes. don't think about it or make up the "what if" scenario...just toss it!

I go through my closet every Spring & Fall and take out whatever I didn't wear that season. I started taking them to a local consignment store because then I can buy stuff when I make money, so it lessens the pain of parting with the clothes.
