Our DD is 9 months old tomorrow (! crazy) & we are not officially TTC but we are beginning to think about not trying but not preventing soon. DD is still in her Britax Chaperone infant seat but we have the Britax Boulevard 70 ready. I drive a 2011 Jeep Compass, so the back isn't huge. I am wondering if when we do have another baby, if I will be able to fit one in the middle & one behind the drivers seat? Or will I need to put one on each side? Does anyone have experience with this? I was thinking it may be possible with a smaller infant seat but am not sure.

Where is the infant seat now? If you have a seat in the middle, it should be the least protected seat, which is the BLVD, not the infant bucket.
Also, does your car have LATCH? If it does, it is usually in the two outboard positions and isn't meant to be "shared" in the middle, so your car may already have your answer, if you know what I mean.
I'd personally put both seats in the outboard position regardless of LATCH or seat belt install.

i think middle and driver seat would be fine (who am i to say, since i have no experience), but i think you'd have to get to the middle by going through the passenger seat. but you could at least sit down while getting to the middle. i'm guessing you'd have to get to the driver seat car seat through the driver side door. unless your LO is big enough to take themselves out on their own or something?

@looch: yes my car does have latch, so you think on on each side? How do I decide who gets the drivers side vs. passenger? I know I am thinking about this a lot & am not even pregnant with baby #2

@sulli301: You'd have to see which seat would fit best behind passenger and driver seats, assuming that they are might be moved around. As an example, our convertible is behind the passenger seat, because it can not touch the back of the seat when installed and my husband is tall so he needs the seat further back.
It's really not that complicated, so don't overthink it for two seats. Where it gets tricky is when you have to have three seats together in a row. Then the seat size and install can be a bit of a puzzle.
A third row isn't always the answer, especially when you have to consider the location of the tether points. A Britax should be tethered in the forward facing or rear facing position, so depending on where the car has the anchor points will dictate where you can put the seats.

Right... I've read that "least protected" goes in the middle. If your older one is fwd facing at the time, I believe that would be considered less protected than a rear-facing infant seat.... So that should go in the middle (if possible). Pls also note that your older one can/should still be rear-facing in a convertible car seat for as long as possible... For some kids, this means well into their preschool years. AAP revised their guidelines on that a year or two ago. You may know that already, but just putting it out there for others who may not know. Lastly, The Car Seat Lady website is a fantastic resource for car seat issues.

@looch: Okay cool! That makes a bit more sense. I know I shouldn't over think it yet but I immediately started thinking of it when DH & I began talking about possibly having another kiddo soon.
@NYCaliMama: Thanks for thecarseatlady.com website, that's awesome! I read the AAP guidelines change while I was pregnant. I know our Blvd 70 is rear facing to 40 lbs, but does my daughters height matter? Thanks!

@sulli301: as far as height, I believe the rule is when their head is 1 in from the top.

@sulli301: I think you need to check the Britax site for the specific rules as to when a seat is outgrown. There's some rules WRT to the harness slots and where the kid's ears are located.
I think the 1 inch rule is specific to infant buckets.

@looch: Sorry I am just seeing this but thank you! Yes, I read something about the harness slots & checking to see if the shoulders are above them & if the ears are above the top of the seat then it's time for a booster but I don't know about the infant to convertible. I also read the 1 inch rule & DD is awfully close to that @ 26 3/4 inches & 19 lbs even though the infant bucket says 32 inches & 30 lbs
