I wish we had a deep freezer because I would buy so much more in bulk but we like to buy diapers, wipes, toilet paper and paper towel in bulk. I will stock up on other dry goods if they are on sale but it's not very often.

Same thing with paper goods (costco).
Actually even with a deep freezer I wouldn't say we have a crazy big stock pile of food. Little things like butter (real) are expensive unless you can get them on sale.
Meats we usually just have about 5-8 different pieces for meals? Usually 2-3 packs of ground beef, chicken if its on sale, etc.
And then I guess some general normal staples like chicken nuggets and frozen pizzas.

We're getting a freezer after we move. But for now I buy mostly paper goods in bulk.
pomegranate / 3398 posts
Sam's Club here and we always stock up on:
Diapers
Wipes
Paper towels,plates,cups
bottled water
laundry detergent
dishwasher tabs
Frozen foods - french toast sticks, breakfast sandwiches, corndogs - easy things like that.
pineapple / 12566 posts
Canned tomatoes and canned white beans. Unfortunately, it's hard to buy in bulk here unless I just clean out the grocery store shelf for a particular product.
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
Chicken, ground turkey, salmon, oatmeal (quick oats) black beans (dried, from whole foods) and thats about it. Oh, goldfish crackers too. We dont have a deep freezer but we make do since we dont buy any convenience foods.
ETA we also get wipes, paper towels, toilet paper, and laundry detergent at Sams too.
For food items we buy in "bulk" but usually pnly what we will use in a month or two. When we get household stuff it usually lasts 3-4, sometimes 5 months.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
chicken, butter, eggs, toilet paper, paper towels, wipes, kleenex, Tide, Dawn, dishwashing powder, Lysol, applesauce pouches, bottled water and gatorade, beer.....
Mostly because the more i keep at the house, the less i have to run out to replace it all.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
Wipes, diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, Ziplock bags, etc.
Canned coconut milk, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, home canned black beans, tomato paste, stewed tomatoes, rice, rolled oats, whole chickens, butter (15lbs at a time), blueberries, peaches in the late summer/early fall for preserving, wheat berries for grinding, lentils, peanut butter, and we buy half a cow each year and have it butchered to our specifications.
So looking at that list - I guess we buy a lot in bulk! I didn't realize before typing it out.

We buy a half of a cow and pig every year...

Toilet paper
Wipes
I went to Sams yesterday but I didn't leave with anything extra.
honeydew / 7091 posts

Pasta
Canned tomatoes
Beef (buy 1/2 a cow each year)
Frozen peas and corn

At Costco we get: Paper Towels, Toilet Paper (tried Kirkland brand this last time, never again), Frozen Chicken Breast, Lettuce, celery, applesauce pouches, Lysol wipes, Detergent, Dishwasher Detergent, trash bags, dish soap, toothbrushes

We dont! Our house isn't small per se but there is so very little storage place, we struggle finding places for things, even living with "less" so I just buy what we need when we need it. I wish I could do a huge monthly trip & only go back for perishables. Oh well.

@Mrs. Lion: Have you heard of Azure Standard? (www.azurestandard.com) We get some of our stuff from there -- the grassfed butter, wheat berries, coconut milk, oats, dried black beans, etc. - which is SO convenient and typically pretty good prices, too! They have drop points all over the US. Our drop is actually today and I'm so excited to go pick it up. They just package it all in a box and you drop by and pick it up. You can also buy fresh produce from them. I bought a whole box of organic apples from them in the fall and made applesauce and canned it. The apples were awesome and so flavorful/sweet.
The household stuff we get at Costco. The peaches, berries, etc. we source locally at the cheapest price we can get in season and freeze to make last for the year. The chickens are from a local farm and the beef is from my dad's ranch.

Oats, chocolate chips, toilet paper, paper towel, diapers, wipes, coconut oil, almond milk, hemp seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds...lots of stuff. Costco is a dangerous (but wonderful) place.

We should get more paper products in bulk, but I don't have a membership to a warehouse club.
I buy a ton from the bulk-food sections of our grocery store:
herbs and spices, flour, sugar, rice, beans, nuts.
I also buy frozen fish fillets when they're on sale.
persimmon / 1165 posts
Paper stuff, laundry detergent, razors, deodorant, tooth paste, trash bags,
meats (cubed beef, chicken, sausage, etc.), cut-up butternut squash (we freeze it to last), orange juice, coffee, soda
pomelo / 5469 posts
Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, deodorant, nappies, wipes, chocolate...I think that's all.

@mrs. lion, Sam's Club. They sell big boxes of the pouches and big 36 packages of eggs. I also bought this massive block of grass fed white cheddar (like, a 5 lb block!) for $11 and I break it off and freeze chunks of it.
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
Ah! I have never seen the cheddar! What brand?? I may start buying eggs there too. We go through 2 dozen a week!

@coopsmama: I have been curious about Azure Standard! I might wall you about it

Dog and cat food, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dryer sheets, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, nuts, protein bars, shampoo, shower gel.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@mrs.lion, Kerrygold!!! AH, it's SO GOOD.
And yes, i hear you on the eggs. I buy "cheap" eggs like this to bake with and stuff like that, and when it's available, i buy the farm eggs for hard boiling, pan frying, etc, when i can actually really taste/notice the difference in flavor
eggplant / 11824 posts
Oh man, we buy a lot in bulk.
We buy a half (or quarter) cow and pig at a time, which includes beef: ground beef, steaks, roasts, bones (for making stock), etc. Pork: farm cured-bacon, sausage (sweet and hot), roasts, chops, etc. We also sometimes buy chicken in bulk; depends.
Dry goods:
Pasta, quinoa, winter berries, faro, dried beans, kosher salt, some flours, etc.
Veggie/meat/seafood stock:
We make these at home, but make in bulk and freeze. Save roughly 50-100% off the retail cost of boxed/canned stock.
Shrimp and fish: our local shrimp season is very short, so I buy a ton and shell it and freeze it for eating year round. I also buy fish in bulk, pre-portioned for individual servings (sockeye salmon, tuna steaks, tilapia and flounder/sole).
Fruit: buy/pick a ton of local fruit in the summer and freeze.
Household goods:
TP, paper towels, wipes, diapers, dishwasher tabs, lotion, body wash, etc.

@blackbird: Um. I must find! Last time i was in i looked for non-rbgh cheese and couldnt find any labeled as such. Is that the brand that is irish though? I feel ke if its grass fed it is probably rbgh free too?
apricot / 355 posts
Pretty much everything we can. Costco is my happy place.
It would not be unusual to find any or all of this in our cart on any given trip:
TP
paper towels
bottled water
ground beef
frozen chicken breast
organic milk (they sell a gallon and a half for cheeeeap)
organic eggs
big containers of vanilla Fage
organic butter
coffee beans
peanut butter
frozen fruits and veggies
olive oil
cooking spray
baking soda
chocolate chips
flour/sugar
bread (double loaf)
produce (apples, bananas, watermelon, asparagus, lettuce, berries, peppers, etc)
batteries
organic chicken stock
goat cheese
deli cheese
whole chickens
ribs or brisket if we're going to be barbecuing
contact solution
shampoo/conditioner
body wash
protein powder
gummy prenatal vitamins
razors
deoderant
diapers
wipes
And anything else that looks good!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@mrs. lion, it is! It's called "ballyshannon" by the way. No idea if it's rbgh free, but it probably is. All their butters are, and their other cheese are.
It's possible this particular cheese is made just for Sam's Club. I don't see it on their website. But it's really really good. I've been putting it in everything.

A lot!! Basically, anything that's a non perishable, we buy at Costco.
clementine / 849 posts
Paper towels
toilet paper
crackers
granola bars
belvita bars
ground beef
frozen chicken
wipes
cooking spray
oatmeal
chocolate chips
peanut butter
flour
bread (freeze some loaves)
I think that's it...
We don't have a ton of food storage, so it's kind of a priority which stuff we buy.
nectarine / 2274 posts
Frozen organic chicken breast, Excedrin, Toilet paper, and paper towels are the only things I buy in bulk.
persimmon / 1286 posts
paper goods, toiletries, soy sauce, syrup, pasta... but we don't have very much room. in our new place we are getting a pull out freezer so we can stock up on chicken. can't wait.
honeydew / 7811 posts
@Bao: Oatmeal, honey, raisins, peanut butter, paper towels, diapers, toilet paper, chicken for DH.
Our storage space is really limited so there is crap everywhere!
honeydew / 7504 posts
Not much since we don't have the room for it. Maybe once we move, if we have more storage. I really want to start buying spices in bulk, and I know that won't be too hard to store. Hoping to get to the Italian Market in Philly before we move.
