I am looking for the best way to video chat with those who don't have i-devices. I'm moving away from the iPhone (have hated every second of my 2 years with it) and would still like to video chat. Do you use Hangouts? Skype? (I hate Skype) Something else?

I have an iPhone but DH has an android - we use google duo to video chat. It seems to work well for us.

Facebook messenger. My MIL can use it right from her phone, like she's used to. She has an iphone and we have androids.

I've used google hangouts with friends because we wanted something that could handle multiple people for free (we moved to three different states).
With my niece (who has a kindle but not phone), we've used skype

Hubs has an android and I have an iPhone and we use hangouts to video chat!

@Mamaof2: I don't know what it looks like on iPhone, but on my android there is a menu at the top where you can select calls. I tap that, search the person's name and tap the little video camera to make a video call.

Skype. We've also done FB messenger on random occasion.

@Mamaof2: Yes. We have iphones and use them to video chat with a relative that has an android. I think the person on the other end might need to have the messenger app too.
If you click on the last icon in the below screen shot it will bring you to video chat.

Just Skype because the only people we video chat with are my ILs and that's all they know how to use.

Kik... The video function isn't as great because the screen is smaller, but it works well enough.

With my sister in Japan, we use Facebook messenger and skype to call. When my DH was on an international work trip, Skype was not that great and kept dropping, so we switched to Google hangout to text and video chat.

Note for messenger. ... both people have to have the app OPEN on their devices. It won't just "pop up"

@DesertDreams88: Are you sure? I've just randomly video called my MIL without letting her know ahead several times via messenger and it's worked just fine.

@DesertDreams88: @kiddosc: I tried using messenger with my mom this morning - she could see DS but we couldn't see her - wonder if she didn't have the app open?

@Mamaof2: She has to accept the call as a video call I think. She has to tap on the video camera on her screen when she accepts the call to turn her phone camera on.

I have always used the Oovoo. It may sound a bit too old-fashioned, but you even can do the group calls there. It used to be for free. I am not sure if it is still now, but as far as I remember it is. 4 The connection is always perfect, but sometimes sound could have been better. You know, when the sound comes later than the picture? But I still like the design and it is easy to use. I would recommend this channel to communicate with, I am not sure if anybody even knows it exists! hah
