When we used to do hard work outs, things would actually show sweat lines which is really unattractive.

This thread is cracking me up! I just started going to the gym somewhat recently. I swim, so I don't have to deal with VPL, but casual observation indicates that 80% of women are wearing thongs with their working leggings.

Not that I workout very often (especially outside of the house lol), but there is no WAY I would wear a thong or ever go commando to workout. I just....can't even imagine.
Personally, I'm in the group that wears longer shirts to cover my butt crowd....so VPL's aren't even on my radar.

HAHA my mouth is open, I never knew women didn't wear underwear when working out!

Commando. If I wear underwear, I sweat that much worse and I have awful chafing during long runs.

I wear thongs... and during really long runs I wear special seamlesss thongs from Lululemon that are silly expensive to avoid chafing. It's not about panty lines for me, it's about chafing - you do not want chafing in those areas after 10+ miles.

I wear regular underwear, once in a rare while commando depending on the shorts or pants. Thongs working out seems like a yuck bad idea to me.

Great, thanks to this thread I'm going to stare at everyone's butt at the gym to see if they have lines! When I'm doing long runs I have fancy lululemon boyshorts that are comfy and happen to be seamless. I did read that cotton is the most breathable fabric for any sweaty workouts and will help guard against UTIs. I'd rather have lines showing than a UTI... ain't nobody got time for that.

@T.H.O.U.: Yes, I noticed that in my BodyPump instructor just the other day. Really unattractive! =\
@lamariniere: I love that - "casual observation"
@ValentineMommy: Similar! I have mostly longer shirts, but when I'm nearing laundry time, I do have to break out my older, shorter shirts, and sometimes I get self-conscious about VPL (just learned this acronym too! I'm learning so much~~)
@YogiRunner: You're welcome! LOL jk~~

Commando! I was my leggings or shorts after every use so there's no real point to underwear. Plus I got used to this when I'd work out on my lunch break and I didn't want to go back to he office wearing underwear I just worked out in. Gross.
Try it! You'll probably wonder why you never did it before!

So I've been thinking about it, and I wondered if I should try going commando, but then I realized that I'd have to wash my leggings after a single use! (...right?)
I'm not a big sweater (aka I don't work out as hard as I should! haha), so I can usually rewear leggings twice or so before I wanna throw them in the wash. I don't find regular underwear uncomfortable under my leggings, so I am going to confidently keep doing what I'm doing!
Anyway, the mystery is solved and I can finally stop staring at people's butts!

@Mrs Spoon: We were typing at the same time! I *would* try it, except the undies don't really bother me! But I'm very satisfied now with this new information I have. I'm totally behind the times, but I am 100% cool with it lol~
ETA: Epiphany!! Shorts! AHH so now I know why one pair of shorts I have have like a built-in underwear thingy. I thought it was just to cover your underwear so when you're upside-down or whatever, people don't see your actual underwear -- wrong! It's so that you can go commando! OMG. My world is just splitting wide open. Crazy!

Regular underwear. I can't even imagine going commando, but to each her own!
