I feel like my 8.5 month old needs more, he's SUPER active and handsy. His favorite toys are the dog bowls, dog frisbee and my keys!

DS is 10.5 months and loves balls of varying sizes, stacking toys, his alligator walker, xylophone and piano, cars that he pushes around and a shape sorting cube. And books. The boy loves books. I'm also looking for some ideas for his bday to shake things up a bit. Im even getting bored of his toys hahha

@pachamama: yes, balls are a must! He loves to chase them around and we have been practicing rolling them back and forth. It's adorable. I picked up a small playground ball at the dollar store the other week and he's obsessed with it. We also have this set and he really seems to enjoy the variety of shapes and textures:

Balls are a hot toy with the 11 month and 12 month old I have. I got two medium sized ones from the dollar store. Ones that can be shakers are good too. My daughter is enjoying playing with a toy that plays music and lights up on the outside when you drop a ball into it. Only, the balls aren't with the toy so she drops mega block single pieces in there and it works. I was impressed when she did it the first time, making things work with different tools! Tupperware lids in a box are also popular. Little toy cars made for that age would be good too. I think little tikes might make some age appropriate ones.

Around that age LO loved:
Little People barn, animals and tractor
Melissa and Doug puzzles (we have some with big knobs)
V-tech walker (still plays with this at almost 2.5!)
He got a little set of Melissa and Doug wooden stacking cars for his first bday and a set of Little People cars with a transporter that he still plays with now.

My kiddo will be 13 months this week. Recent favorites have been stacking toys of any sort, balls, ride on cars, small boxes and baskets she can put things into and carry around, wooden blocks, and books.

@pachamama: There's definitely a huge difference in coordination between 9 months and 12 months. My DS is now 14m, and he didn't start really playing with things until around 11-12 months old.

DD is 10 months and she loves maracas more than anything. She also enjoys playing with stacking toys- she can't stack them yet but likes to knock them down when we stack, balls, and she's also into cruising. I need to get out our alligator walker!

Balls, music table, walker, keys (toy keys are okay, but the real ones are better), sassy wonder wheel (good for high chair when not eating), popping giraffe, board books, soft blocks, munchkin mozart magic cube. His favorite "toy" is really a wipes container, followed closely by any of big brother's toys. There is a huge difference in coordination between 8.5 months and 12 months.

@LulaBee: As a Spanish teacher, I have a few maracas
@mdf106: That's true, I think he will start "playing" more than just eating/ banging/ smashing soon.

at that age DD loved stacking cups (she was obsessed), blocks, little people toys, and a find-and-point book from Baby Einstein. she's 14 months now and still loves all of that except she's over the stacking cups now.

My 14 month old got a truck for his first bday that he loved!! (And still loves) it's a fire truck with blocks. He loves taking the block out them putting them back in and slamming the ladder shut. Now at 14 months he's starting to put the blocks together.

He also got a pull train that had stacking blocks he loves and a rake. Omg the rake. It's a toddler size large take and he tries to take it everywhere! But pretty much anything he can push around.
