My LO is 8.5 weeks now and I feel like everything with her sleep is one step forward and two steps backwards. Her usual sleep situation has been 3-4 naps per day, almost all in the Moby wrap while I'm wearing her, unless we're out and about and she gets a carseat nap in there. I try to have the first morning one in her crib but I have about a 75% success rate of getting her to stay asleep once I put her down (rock to sleep first), and usually she only sleeps for 15 more minutes, although we did have a 30 and 45 min nap in the past week.

At night she sleeps in the PnP bassinet next to our bed, and so I nurse/rock her to sleep and put her down asleep usually by 8-9pm depending on how quickly she goes down or when DH gets home from work and when we eat! Then usually she sleeps 3 hrs (twice it's been 4 hrs!), wakes to eat, then 2 hrs, and then 2 or 1 hrs after that. So usually more MOTN wakes then I would like, but usually I just pick her up, nurse her in bed, and then wake a minute for her to fall asleep and put her back in her PnP and she either stays asleep or settles herself back to sleep on her own. So pretty low maintenance.

The past 24 hours though she's had a really hard time linking her sleep cycles, waiting up before getting into her deep sleep - over and over again. I couldn't get her down for her morning nap because she just kept waking up before I could put her down. So we went straight to her wrap naps and her first was less than an hour and she usually does at least 2 hr wrap naps. Then at night it took a while to get her down - due to the said awakenings, but then slept 3 hrs. After that though we went into a 3 hour cycle of her waking, me rocking her back to sleep, then her either waking up before I put her down and repeating the process, or waking up soon after I put her down. I tried nursing her to sleep, which got her asleep but then she woke up 20 min later. I finally pulled her into bed with me at 3am so I could settle her more quickly and hopefully keep her asleep. She still woke up every hour fussy/hungry.

Then today for her wrap nap she is crying out every 10 min or so and stirring, and it's taking a lot more effort to keep her asleep! Is this a growth spurt? Is there something I can do to help her link her sleep cycles better like she had before? Of course this is timed for my first day back to work tomorrow from mat leave - gah. I think it's so hard too because most of the time when she's doing these wakenings she just seems so upset like she is having horrible dreams (like can't get to the boob?!) and it makes me feel terrible for her.

Please tell me this is normal and will get better soon...
