Okay, so I really hope to not offend here, but what is up with moms on call? I have their app, and LO has never come close to their suggested schedules, primarily because he always needed to eat more. For instance, the sample schedules have no MOTN feeds after 8 weeks. At that point, LO was eating three times a night. It was only until two weeks ago (LO is almost 9 months old) that he dropped the MOTN feed! Now, for his age range, the suggested schedule says he should only have breastmilk/formula two times a day (once in the morning and once at bedtime). LO breastfeeds or gets pumped milk 5-6 times a day! I thought they were still supposed to get most of their calories from milk at this age. Anyway, I am not trying to trash them or start some controversy. I am just genuinely curious if 9 month olds typically only have milk twice a day, or maybe I am missing something because I only have their app and haven't read the book.

I don't know much about Moms on Call, but BM or formula twice a day for a 9 month old does not sound right at all. I don't think Liam went down to that until 14 or 15 months.

That sounds like a ridiculously small amount of milk/formula. I've always read that the bulk of baby's nutrition should come from milk or formula before age 1. I'm not really a fan of the strict scheduling books, like Moms On Call and Babywise. I liked looser stuff, like The Baby Whisperer. My 17 month old still has milk several times a day - two nursing sessions, and a cup of cows milk at lunch time and snack time.

i think the book(s) adds alot more context to what you wrote. at 9 months they should be at 2 bottles and then 2 sippy cups. but they do mention in their book that if your baby isn't taking to sippy cups well then to feed them a bottle. so its really 4 milk feedings a day. my daughter who is now almost 2 followed moc and was sttn around 8 weeks following their schedule as well as my almost 3 month old son. they never state in the book that this will always happen and they suggest things to do if its not happening. so they never state not to feed your child or deny them milk. they just suggest sample schedules and give helpful tips if the babies aren't able to do those schedules yet
eta- i think moc can get a bad rep from those who haven't read the books or looked into it. but i've rarely let my baby cry for more than 10 min and never denied them milk if they were truly hungry. as i said my daughter has sttn since 8 weeks and has had no sleep regressions now at 2 years old so i think their methods work, but i know its not for everyone.

I'm afraid you've misread it. They get a full bottle or breastfeeding twice per day--6-8 ounces in the morning and at night, PLUS several sippy cups of breastmilk or formula throughout the day. The total ounces of bm or formula fall within 28-32 ounces, depending on how many ounces you opt to put in the sippy (they recommend 2-4 oz per sippy four times a day in addition to solid food and the morning/night feed). Does that make sense? I only know what it recommends because I have the book and my LO is almost 9 months, so I have their schedule for the 8-10 month range printed on my fridge and try to follow it daily. I can post the full schedule here from the book if you want.

@Skadi: @kodybear: Thank you for clarifying! That is certainly not clear from their app. It's a shame they don't do a better job at laying that out since a lot of people use just the app. Here is the schedule from the app:

7 pm feed/bedtimeNowhere does the app say that sippy cups should be done in conjunction with baby food.

@raintreebee: I haven't seen their app! Looks like they need to tweak that then, unless it's not supposed to be a full on recommendation source (I know some authors only give highlights of their book in apps to try to get people to buy the book). Hm.

@raintreebee: Weird! In the book it specifically says it...they get it with every snack and baby food except the 7:30 am baby food. Maybe we should write them about it. I mean, I guess it could just be an oversight, or maybe they assume people know to give more than 2 feedings a day?

No. You have misread the schedule, and if you click on each time it will give a dropdown with more detailed instructions.
