In our new home it will be butcher block for the perimeter and soapstone for the island!

We have honed granite so it's not shiny. It's called Virginia Mist, I love it! (island and perimeter)

Granite. In our old house we had Corian, which I also liked.

Granite. Unfortunately, the previous owner only upgraded the counter tops and left the dated cabinets, so eventually it'll all have to get redone anyways.

Black granite. In my dream kitchen, I'd love to have a lighter granite.

@QBbride: nice stuff! It most closely resembles soapstone.

Formica. We just replaced the counters and we tossed around putting in stone, but our friend who is in real estate said we'll never get that money out of the house in our area, so we can do it if we want, but if we plan to sell in the next 5 years he woldn't recommend it.

We have a black granite (I think - not familiar with counter top options), its not shiny though, kinda looks like chalkboard on the perimeter. And we have the butcher block counter on the island.

We have corian, which we like. We'll eventually upgrade to granite after we finish other stuff in the house....so maybe like 10-15 years! haha

Some tile... we bought the house from the original owners (they bought it back in 1954!) and they must've remodeled in the late 70s...

Stained and yellowy "white" laminate...hopefully replaced between now and baby-time with granite!

Laminate/formica... I hate it. Our kitchen is so outdated, but we'll have to save a bit before we can remodel.

We have granite tiles. I would love a granite slab, but I can't complain too much

Nasty ugly laminate.... we rent though, if I owned it that would be gone immediately!

beige-ish laminate. we rent, so we didn't chose it. it's not awful as far as laminate goes. when we buy i'll definitely be getting butcher block -- i LOVE it!

PINK Laminate. Hideous. And the cupboards are 70s wood, painted pink, then really sloppily painted white. I'm talking they didn't even remove the hardware or sand, just slopped on the paint.. Sigh. The kitchens the ugliest part of our house.

Granite - we rent and are lucky to have a great kitchen, but I'd LOVE a butcher block island when we own one day

Laminate, original to the house. We'll upgrade eventually...maybe marble, soapstone, or corian.
@photojane: That is GORGEOUS! Sign me up for butcher block!

@Mrs. Jacks: I love both of your kitchens! and @chopsuey119: very lovely countertop!
@MamaMoose: Do you or anyone know the difference between quartz and granite? I can't decide which surface to pick!

@serendipity: granite is all natural slab. Our countertops are from the company Silestone which is a man made product that is created from Quartz. It's slightly less expensive because it's man made. Which was great for us because it fit our needs better anyway. We wanted to match our grey poured concrete so we were originally looking at Carrera marble (white with grey streaks). But we were advised against using marble in the kitchen because it's very soft so if you do things like throw your keys on the counter you can damage it. Luckily Silestone came out with a design the looks very similar to Carrera marble but is much more durable. And it's treated to be antibacterial which is even better. We are really happy with it!
