We've been making our own for years and it works great. But occasionally I need something a little stronger for DH's work out clothes. Adding borax and oxi clean just isn't cutting it for the odor.
Bonus if it's a HE washer detergent! THanks

All Free and Clear. Have been using it since M arrived and it's the best. Cheapest at Costco.

We use All Free & Clear too, if I can find it I get Purex Free and Clear, I prefer it but for some reason it's hard to find around here consistently.

All Free & Clear. I use Shout for treating stains (especially now that she is eating purees and gets them EVERYWHERE).

@mediagirl: how much at costco? We shop BJs and I can't find the price online for comparison. Thanks!
@Bao: @ldh112: @LuLu Mom: whats a good price? Thanks!

@regberadaisy: I get mine as Sam's club, I believe it's like $15 for the big container (126 loads or something like that)

@regberadaisy: I got some this week for 2.99 at Kroger! Usually Target, Publix, and Kroger have great sales on it. I don't think Ive paid more than $5-7 for it! Sometimes I get the "small and mighty" bottle which is slightly more concentrated and still similarly priced. Don't shop on Amazon for it, it's way overpriced.
I should probably get the bigger container which is more like $15 but I haven't done the math on the better deal.

I've tried a lot of types in the last 2 years and have happily settled with Oxiclean (detergent, not the stain treating powder) and Persil. Oxiclean is fantastic and really cheap with coupons. Persil is great for really dirty things and never leaves a residue or anything. I'm sensitive to scents but they both smell great.

@LuLu Mom: your girls have sensitive skin too right? Is All Free and Clear unscented? I'm assuming yes because of the name.

I rotate based on deals/sales... Between All Free & Clear, Tide Free & Clear since I use pods. I also hoard Dreft/Purex liquid if I find really good deals when we have to soak DD's clothes!

@regberadaisy: for me and the kids we use a free and clear (whatever is on sale) but for DH's stuff I use Arm and Hammer - works great and he likes his clothes to be scented

@regberadaisy: Yes & Yes. The girls have super sensitive skin (this is why I prefer the Purex, i feel like it's "cleaner" but they are both scent free!)

@regberadaisy: I think it's $12-$14 at Sam's Club. My girls have sensitive skin, this works great for them.

All Free & Clear and we sprinkle Oxi Clean sometimes too.

We use and love Charlie's Soap. It's really good on my sensitive skin, and the bottles last forever. They also make an oxygen bleach powder for tough stains. It makes me break out, though, which is weird. It shouldn't, but I have crazy reactions to laundry soap. I've never had an issue with the soap itself, though!

Have you tried to add vinegar and baking soda to the load for his work-out clothes? When I have a really smelly load, I'll add some of each. It helps!

I really like Target's 'Up & Up brand Free & Clear' detergent. For stains and to boost loads that need it (towels from swim class or gym clothes) I add 'Clorox 2 Free and Clear Laundry Stain Remover and Color Booster'

We use tide free and gentle. But I really like tide sport with febreze for smelly clothes.

for hubby's and my clothes we use Sun, because we're cheap. I tried making my own but went wrong somewhere because it never dissolved/broke up properly and so our clothes never got clean and ended up with little laundry soap gel spots on them that we had to rewash!
For my daughter's clothes I still try to use the Baby All-- though Hubby likes to toss them in with our loads and sometimes will use Sun- she doesn't have a reaction to it so I don't get to upset (she's 2)
My woven wraps get the special treatment-- I buy Vaska for them though I haven't even used half a bottle in a year so it's not terribly expensive for me to do that

Also, Tide HE. After reading this post I'm wondering if theres something special about All free & clear?

Tide Free and Clear which we've used since we were married - DH has scent sensitivity.

@LovelyPlum: how much baking soda? I do fill the softener part with vinegar

We used Tide pods for years and then something happened and it made us break out into awful hives, so we switched to homemade for a while, but it wasn't quite cutting it for some things, like you said, so we went to Tide's Free and Gentle, which eventually came out in pods (which DH is really gung ho about and I'm like if it keeps you doing laundry, fine). If we need a boost, we sometimes buy the Tide whites brightening pod.

@Mamaof2: a tablespoon or two? I generally sprinkle it around the top load without measuring exactly.

Arm & Hammer with Oxiclean in powder form. Liquid detergent stinks up my front load washer and Arm & Hammer is cheapest at the grocery. I keep Borax on hand to add for extra dirty loads.

Kirkland Ultra F&C. It's cloth diaper safe, too. Though, I might switch to something else because my mf diapers are not getting clean and that's with borax and oxy-clean.

All free and clear.
We were using Dreft for the baby (but it irritated him) and Tide for ourselves, but lately I've just been doing everyone's in the All since sometimes I do the babys and mine together.

All free and clear liquid for everyday, Ecos liquid for woven wraps and carriers and Nellie's Laundry Soda for cloth diapers.

Tide Free and Clear. We use a tiny amount of liquid per wash, works great. You don't need as much as the manufacturers say you do.
