I know gift giving is more for us than him at this point but I would like to get him some toys he can grow into.
Any ideas of toys (or anything else) to get a 6 month old for Christmas?

I was going to write this post I'm thinking of things he *needs*.. Maybe another wubbanub, some more A&A Swaddles (although we already have 8.. I love the new navy and white ones I saw).I'm going to give family some ideas of things like this instead of them getting him more toys. Maybe a wooden toy box/chest.

My LOs were 7 months at Christmas last year. Some gifts that went over well were blocks (soft ones that were easy to stack), a bead maze, bath toys (they had just started taking baths in the big tub), and teething toys. You can't have too many books or wintery PJs, either!

@Reese: Hahaha! It will be about that time to start with solids!

For LO's first Christmas she was around 5 months old. We got her a few blankets, a My Pal Violet, and a nice toy box to put in her room. Other people mostly got her toys that were beyond her age range (most in the 12 month range) so she just grew into them later. My mom got her an activity table that she was able to use sitting down and then standing and that was great too.

F was 6 months last Christmas, we got books, an activity table with removable legs for when they are little, and this sea turtle music that he liked then, and still plays with now http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Einstein-Neptune-Orchestra-Musical/dp/B004G8QSY4

When LO was 3 months at Christmas we got the Kick & Play Piano. She was a little young for it but she loved and played with it until she was almost a year old! It was our favorite infant toy by far.
An activity table is a great idea, too, though. We got the one that you put balls into when she was about 7 or 8 months I think and she still plays with it at 2 years old!

We hardly got anything for her and instead told relatives what to get
Some ideas were her high chair (started solids shortly after Christmas, she was 5 months at Christmas time); jumperoo; activity or music table (we put it flat in the floor until she was starting to stand); books. She also got some Christmas pjs and a Jacques the peacock toy that she still likes at 2.

@Reese: ha!
T will be 10 mo and I Christmas shop slowly year round.
I got her Richard Sperrys Everything book
A Fischer price vintage style phone
Hanna PJs
We plan on following the want/need/wear/read gift giving idea. She may not know we are doing it, but I like the idea of 4 gifts.

V-tech sit to stand walker & Little People farm were the favorites from my son's 1st Christmas. My mom also got him some Melissa & Doug chunky puzzles which he didn't play with right away, but loved them a few months later and still plays with them a lot.

My son was less than 10 days old at his first Christmas and I felt ridiculous buying things for him, but I also felt ridiculous NOT buying anything for him. So don't feel badly, get a few things!
My son loved those Lamaze animals, the giraffe was a favorite. We also bought him on of those music/learning tables and he got a ton of use out of it.

Stacking toys, an activity table, soft blocks, anything to push....my mom asked for a wish list for T, who'll be 6 months right before Christmas. Here's what I put on his

@abmamma: yes! LO LOVES this still at 11mos, and we gave it to her starting at around 6 mos. We started without the legs, and when we added the legs it encouraged practice standing/cruising.

It's ok if you get him something to grow into. He won't know the difference anyway, and you'll still feel good about getting a gift for him.
I got my son a plush rocking cow for his first birthday, and he still uses it 7 months later.

I bought him the Vtech sit to stand walker that people have mentioned and a group of a talking remote, camera and doctor kit
I think I'm going to fill his stocking with teething rings since he's becoming such a beaver

If it wasn't for the fact that we have an older child who would wonder why his baby brother didn't get many presents, we probably wouldn't get him anything since DS2 will be so young. We also have most of the above suggestions due to DS1. However, I think I"m going to ask for books and other small toys. We'll also probably wrap some new essentials he'll need for starting solids since it will be around that time.

This is #2 for me, she will be 8 months, so we have all the developmental toys, ect. already. I plan on getting her a matching chair with her sister from Santa, and I think her gift from us with be renewing our children's museum/zoo membership. Otherwise I already pre-ordered Aladdin on Amazon and will probably get a couple other movies and maybe a new toy. She's too young to really "get it" and we have grandparents that will be spoiling too.
