I wouldn't register for them at all. Register for what you really need equipment-wise because there's always going to be a few people that disregard it and buy clothes anyway. People just like to buy kids clothes

So he will be just over 2 when he arrives? Hmmm, I would probably go with 2T-3T tops and 18-24month or 2T bottoms. At 2 years my son was about 35in and 27lbs, which was on the higher end of the height and weight charts. But I would wait to buy expensive things like coats and shoes for when he arrives.

@T.H.O.U.: true about bottoms. My son is a bruiser with a belly, so he can only wear elastic-waisted bottoms. But I know of other boys who need a belt with regular button/zip bottoms since they are so skinny!

I would say 2-3T that would give you an assortment. My DS is just about 20 months and is 33 inches, 29 lbs 2T tops fit him well, 18-24 month bottoms are still a lil loose on him. I would imagine he will be in 2T for the next 6-12 months as the growing has definitely slowed down the last several months.

My DD is 2 and her size varies depending on brand. She's also gotten a lot leaner lately, so a lot of her clothes that were fitting tight (that I was about to put away) now all fit perfectly. But I still prefer shirts to be a little bigger. It's easier to layer a sleeveless onesie and I just fold up the sleeves. Same goes for sweaters, sweatshirts and for most jackets. I'd get a mixture of 2T-3T.

@hotchildinthecity: tees from indie stores tend to run small. i always size up because they shrink and if they're too big now, they can always wear them next year.

I think 2T would be a good option! A started wearing 2T around 20lbs, 19 months. She's almost 2 and still fits in them well.
