Ahh, I'm sorry.

I know there was a blog post I used to follow about this. It had tips like sleepers without feet and with snaps (that way they can access feet for monitors and run any wires from the chest through the holes of the snaps versus a zipper that must be opened all the way).

Our hospital was pretty accommodating in terms of food, high chair, even toys.

What about a lovey? G has an Angel Dear, and she started rubbing it on her face pretty early on.

Also, travel sleep sheep! Love that thing. It is so soothing, and you could put it in his crib.

Medical -

Times and Dosages the baby was given medication in the past 24 hours – Its actually helpful to just bring the boxes of any medication you have given
History of illness and any allergies

Supplies For Baby -

Pajamas without feet (x2) – Its great to hook monitors and IV’s up to their feet if possible but only if they have their feet accessible. Also easy to unbutton to get to their chest for listening to their heart/breathing.
Socks (x2) – Socks to cover up the monitors and blinky lights that are on the toes
Baby washcloth – When the baby is running a fever or spits up its nice to have a soft wash cloth to wipe their face
Baby blanket – We brought a muslin blanket which was perfect when she was running a fever but in the cold A/C of the ER
Boogie Wipes – After the tears of being sick and then poked and prodded the last thing we wanted to do was wipe her nose with a hard hospital tissue. Boogie wipes or soft tissues are great
Baby food/formula – Its great to have what the baby is accustomed to
Diaper rash cream – This is considered a medication so you aren’t supposed to use your own, but when on the prescriptions babies often get a rash and its nice to use the type of cream you know works on your baby.

Extras for Baby -

Plastic toys – If something falls on the hospital floor you want to be able to wipe it off. Toys are also good when they are bored or during procedures
Disinfecting wipes – Good to wipe toys/chairs etc off

Mom and Dad Supplies -

Granola bars – who knows when you’ll be able to eat next
Cash/change – for parking and vending machines
Pen/notebook or log in your phone – write down nurses names, shift changes, when medication was administered etc. We have caught so many hospital mistakes this way
Extra change of clothes – you may need an extra layer for the cold or may get stains, etc.
Throw in a toothbrush just in case because it makes you feel like a new person when you can brush your teeth!

We ended up in the hospital for 36 hours when LO was 7 weeks old (unexplained fever).

We didn't need much. I had my husband bring my pump because I got engorged (LO skipped some feeds). I also needed clothes, toiletries, snacks, phone and charger, kindle.

LO didn't need much. The hospital provided diapers and blankets. He wore a hospital gown. Once LO was feeling better, it was nice to have a couple of books and toys for him.

@spaniellove: The above lists are great. My hospital experiences involve 2-7 days here and there due to her illnesses and didn't start until she was 10months, so I am not sure if the same stuff applies but here you go:
For me:
There was a fold out chair for me to sleep on and I really appreciated my own pillow and blanket. I am not picky but it is hard to sleep with the thin, papery hospital stuff.
Dry shampoo and olay wash clothes/wipes.
Water and gum- to counteract the constant coffee
i-pad/Tablet

For baby:
crib blanket from home, for comfort.
sound machine from home, for comfort
Front open play suits and socks, as noted above
Boogie wipes were a life saver- helps clean around the tubing, if you LO is on oxygen or anything.
Light show type toys, of any kind. It seemed to interest her and calm her even when she has really ill and just laying there. Yikes, poor J! Hope surgery goes smoothly, will be thinking good thoughts for you all.

Another thing to note, in case anyone else on this thread benefits from it, but at our hospital, if you are a nursing mother and your child is admitted, you get your hospital meals covered. It was nice even though we were just there for like 24 hours but we didn't have to go out for food.

@spaniellove: thinking of you! Our LO has a fisher price seahorse that makes music that he loves. It soothed him during our long nicu stay. Anything like that to help drown out hospital sounds a bit! PPs have given great suggestions already. I will keep your LO and you in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh wow, good luck momma. You're in my thoughts and prayers!

We are in the hospital now with my 11 week old and my saving grace has been an iPhone charger that doesn't need to plug into the wall, because they won't let me use the outlets here. LO is in isolation so I've been curbing through the battery like crazy!

Everything else on my list I think people have touched on already. Maybe booties/socks to help hold the monitor that checks O2 saturation (I think) on the baby's toe - my daughter keeps kicking hers off. Oh and I'd bring snap pjs in one size too big - DD's IV is taped to a splint do she can't pull it out, which means I need a bit of extra space to manuever her arm in and out of clothing.

Good luck with your baby's surgery - hope the hospital stay is a short one!
