We are planning to transition LO to a floor bed within the next couple of months. Since we are in an apartment right now with little spare room, I was thinking I would just purchase a crib mattress and then upgrade to a twin mattress when we move in the fall. But I would love to hear what type of mattress you use so I can expand my research!
What kind/brand of mattress did you use?

How old was LO when you transitioned him/her to the floor bed?

We ended up using our futon mattress as LO's bed. It was thinner, firm and comfy. Got it from Ikea!

we used a futon mattress as well. charlie would definitely have rolled off a crib mattress, and even a twin mattress, and mattresses are higher off the ground than futon mattresses. we have a full sized one (but we wish he were still in his crib!).

I got an Ikea mattress that we can transition to a bunk bed later. It's pretty cool because it's extendable!

@chopsuey119: Thank you for the link! I'm bummed we got rid of my thin futon mattress pre-baby. The one we have now is way too thick.
@Mrs. Bee: Thanks! I wish we had room for a full right now so I would have room to side nurse on it.
@Mrs. Jacks: We might go with this one or the regular Ikea crib mattress...it's just a matter of space both in the room and storage. I am excited to set up a Montessori environment.

It's spendy but looks comfortable and I love that it's completely natural and toxic-free. Not as expensive as organic, but similar health benefits.

@Mrs. Bee: oh no!! that's not good. I'm looking forward to the post though! I wonder how kids do who have floor mattresses from the time they're around 10 months old? Most blogs I read said they started their kid on one before a year old.
