I’m hosting a pumpkin painting party, what type of paint works best for this? (Dries the fastest, washable.)

I've had good luck with the regular Crayola potted washable paints.

Just be careful if you use acrylic. It will definitely stay on the pumpkin and dry fast but it’s a pain in the you know what to get out of clothing and off of surfaces.

Also remind people to be careful where the put the pumpkin- I foolishly put ours out in the uncovered part of our porch in the rain and the paint washed off the pumpkin and dried on my stairs and risers. Total pain to scrub off.
And yeah I think ours were acrylic and my daughter got a bunch on her favorite dress and it was a beast to get out. Definitely provide smocks or tell parents to bring them. If you do get paint on clothes, soaking in water and detergent, then scrubbing with a toothbrush dipped into straight detergent and letting it with the detergent, repeat, then wash.

We’ve been using oil pastels - it’s like a wax crayon. It’s pretty much mess free. I had a party of 3-4 year olds have a great time drawing on their pumpkins last year and it doesn’t get washed away in the rain.

If you do oil pastels maybe do a setting spray like an aerosol mod podge when they're done. Otherwise I'd do Crayola washable paint. Again, I'd do a coat of mod podge or mod podge spray after they dry.

So the crayola website says they don’t recommend their paint as it won’t stick. I ended up getting these tempera paint stick/pens at Michael’s that say they dry in 90 seconds, we’ll see how they do!

@Jennibenni: this sounds like a super fun activity! What else are going to decorate the pumpkins with? Feathers, Pom poms?

Last year we did the crayola paints, and the paint peeled off a few days later. This year we used gel crayons, and they look really great!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We have stick on jewels, stick on foam shapes, and the paint.
