So I just watched the first episode of a mini-series they are airing in the UK on BBC4 called "The Slap". It's based on a novel of the same name. I thought it was very interesting and will be intrigued to see where the fall out goes.
So my question is this:
What would you do if you were throwing a party and an adult guest slapped the child of another guest?

Yikes. I would let the child's parent(s) know and let them deal with it. Would also let the adult slapper know if s/he ever laid a finger on my child there would be hell to pay.

I second @Chopsuey's response. Let the adult know that that behavior will not be tolerated and then let the adult and parent sort it out.

I'd tell the adult doing the hitting that it's not acceptable to hit another parent's child, and then take the kiddo over to their parents to decide how they want to handle it.

I dunno, my policy is to stay out of it, just my first thought.
Did the parent of the child see the child get slapped? Is the child old enough to tell his parents? How close am I to the child, parents, the other guest?

It was really well done to make it both horrifying and understandable...
The kid is 4 or 5, acting inappropriately with little intervention from parents (good friends of yours). The entire party witnesses the slap. The slapper is your cousin. The kid kicked him in the shins, precipitating the slap. -

I'd let them work it out themselves. I wouldn't get involved.
There are cousins on whose behalf I would intervene, others I would not.I get BBC4 as well, what nights is it on?

I would never slap a kid for misbehaving. But sometimes I wish that I could do *something*.

I watched the first episode online, but it looks like it airs on Thursdays at 10pm.
