My city was bombed virtually to the ground during WW2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coventry_Blitz

They built a new Cathedral but the Old Cathedral ruins still stand today as a reminder of what happened and a testimony to peace and reconciliation.

I live in Somerville, which borders Boston so I guess there are a lot of monuments and such, but I can see the Bunker Hill monument from my house and I live on the road that Paul Revere took to signal the British were coming. There's a monument almost next to my house for it.

@illumina: @Cherrybee: you two win in my book!

@sunshineandsushi: that's cool! Maybe La Columbia? Since it's such an old restaurant. Definitely not the night clubs!

P.S. I love both sunshine AND sushi!

@locavore_mama: my sisters went to college in Hoboken. They said Carlo's was much better before the TV show. Now it's just overpriced and a long wait for basic bakery items. I had a cake from there once and our local bakery is much better.

There are quite a few landmarks where I live. Sweet home Chicago!

  39. Anagram

@locavore_mama: yeah, for me not worth the wait. But I've never ordered a specialty cake from them or done a baking class, which is what they are known for I guess. I went in once with my 8th grade niece who was visiting (only because it was a drizzly morning and there was no line) and everything we got was very meh. But also, I've never watched the show, so there's not much appeal to me. There's a great French bakery about 3-4 blocks away that I LOVE though!

Oxford University and Winchester Cathedral are both very close to where we are, but the closest (only about five minutes up the road) is a little shack called Highclere Castle.....aka Downton Abbey!
