Banrock Station - it's a moscato and is so deliiccciiooouuusss. I can't wait for my first glass after this little one has popped out!
eggplant / 11287 posts
Another vote for Apothic Red.
Also love 14 Hands Red Blend.
For white, I love Kirkland Signature Chardonnay and 14 Hands White Blend.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
Great summer white on the cheap is barefoot refresh.
Reds - Justin cab, Joel gott 815, bueller, apothic dark, decoy and silver Palm!
Check Costco - they have great prices!

If you like rose, Whispering Angel is pretty great and widely available (I've found it at Costco and my local grocery store)! I also like the Charles + Charles rose which I can find at Whole Foods and Target. Besides those, I'm partial to pretty much any French wine, especially Bordeaux (red or white) and Sancerre. If you have a local wine store, they can point you in the right direction!

Oh I miss wine!!!
My FAVE for whites, esp for summer, are Sauv Blancs from New Zealand ---- WhiteHaven is my absolute fave.
persimmon / 1141 posts
Reds:
Meiomi Pinot Noir (stellar and luxurious, but needs to air a solid 30 minutes)
Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Costello Cabernet Sauvignon
Nine Mile Road Cabernet Sauvignon
Tisbhi Estate Petite Syrah
Leaping Lizard Cabernet Sauvignon
Whites:
Barefoot Refresh Crisp White
Other:
Digrazia Vineyards Autumn Spice - the most incredible pumpkin wine on the planet. Perfect for Thanksgiving and the holidays. It's from a small winery in CT and I believe they ship. Wine is on the sweeter side, but almost everyone I know who tries it becomes OBsessed! We get cases.

@Charm54: yes! This is going to be my labour wine (my midwives said to have a small glass of wine when labour starts to relax). I took a picture of the bottle so I would remember to get it.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@Mrs. Oatmeal: ohhhhh labour wine - I like the idea of that!!
The wine bar where my girlfriends and I go is where I discovered it - the waiter was one of the first people to know I was pregnant because he automatically brought me over a glass when I came in and I had to turn it down!

Thank you all this is fantastic!
I always get the same 2 or 3 bottles and I really want to have a nice variety.
apricot / 428 posts
@SweetiePie: petit verdot! i live in va and the local stuff is fun. try gamay, it's a good grape. always cab sauv and dark chocolate.

Ahh wine, how I miss you already! I love me any kind of Rioja, or if I'm drinking white then a Chablis or Sancerre.
pineapple / 12566 posts
I mostly drink reds, this is our go-to Pinot Noir. If I must drink white, I like Sancerre.
pomelo / 5326 posts
@hotchildinthecity: I have the same favs! Kim Crawfod sauv Blanc and Apothic Red.
I also love Cupcake Red Velvet and Stoneleigh Sauv Blanc.

I like sweet wines; Cupcake Moscato is my favorite. Rosa Regala is a good sparkling, sweet red wine.

One of the best I've tried recently was Trumpeter Reserve Blend, by Rutini Wines It's a tempranillo, malbec, cab sav blend. It's from Argentina, which seems to be producing some of my favorite wines lately.
grape / 99 posts
another vote for mark west pinot noir. It's sooooooo delicious and affordable! My absolute favorite though is Coto de hayas garnacha centenaria (2012). I can't find it anywhere lately!
I also like redrock malbec, and grayson cellars cabernet if i want a cheap and delicious bottle.
what can I say, I love my reds
clementine / 806 posts
I can't drink red because it gives me migraines.
We love to drink albarinos (a type of spanish white - I have a handful of different bottles that are all good).
And the hands down BEST summer wine when it is 100 degrees outside is $5 at Trader Joes: LaGrotte Lambrusco Dell'Emilia Bianco. Light, refreshing, easy to drink. Supposedly, the red version of this is even better, but I haven't tried it.
@Charm54 : @Mrs.Oatmeal: @MsLine: Laughing about the idea of labor wine! I never had early labor - my contractions came on hard and fast. (and then annoyingly slowed down once I was at the hospital). My doula suggested drinking a glass of wine in the bathtub to try and relax/slow things down so I could get some sleep overnight. Halfway through, I looked at my husband and said "this is the LEAST relaxing glass of wine I've ever had!"
honeydew / 7622 posts
@SweetiePie: Sokol Blosser sparkling Evolution. It's the best sparkling I have ever had- about $25 a bottle. The winery is just a few miles away.
honeydew / 7463 posts
I'm loving the trader joes suggestions. I've heard about their wines but never tried. I'll have to make the trip now that I have specific recommendations.
I think My goal will be to try every wine on this thread at some point over the next year! (If I can find them). I really want to branch out, this is awesome.
nectarine / 2180 posts
@rosegold: Love the Petit Verdot from King Family or Pollak! It can be really hard to find VA wines out of state though.
apricot / 428 posts
@Pancakes: the winemaker is a good guy! he's buddies with dh. very few make it out, you're right.

Well if we are doing Trader Joes recos:
- The 3.99 vinho verde there and it's rose cousin is wonderful - I can't remember the name but it's a long skinny green bottle and it's the only one they carry. They are semi fizzy and light white/Rose wines perfect for now.
- Albero AlbariƱo is cheap and delicioous
- The Muldenbosch and Dr. Loosen I recommended is at TJs. Relax Riesling is also pretty good for the price.
- Black Mountain Fat Cat Cabernet is really good for $5.99 or whatever it is. Perfect pizza wine.
- The $6 Prosecco they sell is good! We served it at our wedding!
- I don't typically do Chardonnays BUT if I do the go-to is Rex Goliath 47lb Rooster Chardonnay. It's cheap and not a huge oaky bomb - it's lighter and a perfect autumn wine with soup and all the butternut squash pumpkin type things. The best with a salad with goat cheese and nuts.
- Castle Rock Pinot Noir is always solid.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@gingerbebe: I HATE super oaky Chardonnays so I'm glad you gave a recommendation for that.
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
For what we like to call "candy wine" at a cheap price, Yellowtail Moscato is delicious and only $6.99 at my liquor store!
honeydew / 7463 posts
@gingerbebe: I couldn't find either of the vinho verdes that you recommended but I just tried another. I love it! I'd never heard of it till you mentioned it here.
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
@SweetiePie: Yay! ESPIRAL is the brand I was thinking of but yes vinho verde is so refreshing in the summer - it's like a white wine spritzer!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
Catena zapata for malbecs.
I also like whitehaven and kim crawford for sauv blancs.
Molly dooker for cabs.
Seghesio for zinfandels.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@SleepyMonkey: Oooh I forgot about Molly Dooker. I tried that a few years ago and used to always have a bottle on hand but somewhere along the way forgot.
papaya / 10343 posts
cryptic red blend, but that is hard to find.
ravenswood red zin
TJs reisling is pretty damn good for a ridiculously cheap wine.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc has been my summer go-to! It's always $15 at WF and $18 at Publix, but my friend just told me it's at Costco right now for $12 and you don't have to have a Costco card to buy from the liquor store there.
I also always love Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. Sometimes I find it on sale for $20 a bottle and I definitely buy it then.
