My 2 yr old still drinks from a bottle with a size 2 nipple numerous times per day. She insists that we hold her while she's drinking her milk so I don't see that going away anytime soon since I love the cuddles.

@Mrs. Carrot: its so funny because in the real world nobody bats an eye when I tell them things but its parenting boards that like to freak out and judge I find - or online like FB.

I was on another board before this one and mentioned my kids ate hot dogs and you would have thought I gave them poison because apparently hot dogs are poison - I was shocked at the hate!

My kids get dessert everyday, my kids dress themselves in whatever they want (even if it doesn't match), they play outside alone, etc....

LO eats way too many carbs. We give him either WW or multi grain options, but he gets a carb every meal & snack.

To prevent the whining and crying I hold him more often than I think is reasonable for a child who is used to be apart from me during the day. Somehow DH gets away with just being in he vincinity.

I let my DD have sips of my frappe every time I have one. I gave her a sip in public the other day and a lady snapped at me "caffeine will stunt her growth!"

Thank you for this post. I needed to read these comments as I have been feeling slightly ashamed of my parenting lately. 1st trimester sickness is kicking my butt...

My 2.5 year old has not eaten a veggie at home in a few days. They go on his plate, he refuses, and I just let. it. go.

My kids get way too much screen time (heck DH and I probably watch too much too.) It's the only thing that will get them to calm down at night and ready for bed is to watch a show or movie.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I thought carbs were good for little kids!?

My 3 year old watches blaze and the monster machines pretty much all the time bc I just do not have the energy to battle over it.

Oh my. I am guilty of many of these. I also spoon feed my three year old while we watch tv to get him to eat better. He is not interested in potty training yet and I am not really worried about it. I nursed him to sleep until he was almost 3. He also likes to drink coffee. (I give him a cup of warm water with splashes of coffee and half and half.) And I still sometimes walk him to sleep, which is killing my back, because he is 36 lbs now! My soon to be 7 year old is only just now starting to sleep in his own bed. Neither kid eats enough veggies and they get dessert every night. I recently realized that my almost 7 year old doesn’t know how to tie his shoes, blow up a balloon, or ride a bike without training wheels, and now I feel like I am failing to teach him important life skills. And he got in trouble at afterschool care yesterday for saying “fuck”.

I’m trying my best. I really am. I work full time, my husband works odd hours and I have to do pickup, dinner and bedtime by myself five days a week. My house is a mess, there is laundry everywhere, my kids fight a lot of the time, I am SO TIRED and this past weekend I had to unexpectedly euthanize my sweet kitty and I got rear ended with the boys in the car and now my car is messed up and so is my neck and everyone is rattled. And I think I have strep throat again. (All four of us just got over it a few weeks ago)

I am just trying to keep everyone fed and rested and in clean clothes. My only saving grace is that I laugh a lot with my kids and they get plenty of hugs and cuddles.

Boo. Feeling overwhelmed and sorry for myself today.

@oscarthegoon: HUGS!!! It'll be ok. Mine got in trouble for screaming "What the Hell?" in PE not long ago.

DD does not nap in her crib. Either DH or I have to hold her for every single one (except at daycare where she magically sleeps in a crib).

She also doesn't eat nearly enough veggies and eats PB&Js for dinner 3-4 times a week.

@Mrs. Carrot: If he is screaming or crying and we need it to stop asap (eg in public) we give him a cookie or the iphone

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don't know? I thought little kids needed carbs more than adults did though.

@azjax: I dont really understand people's judgment over helping babies/toddlers/kids get to sleep. Like, it actually bewilders me that so many people have an opinion about whether or not DS gets rocked before bed??

My 11 month old drinks whole milk already (Dr. doesn't recommend until 1 year).

I bribe my 2 year old with the kids mode on my phone in order to brush her teeth.

I love this thread! I've done plenty of these things. I feel most guilty about my 5yo's eating. She has mild sensory issues and is beyond picky. Her veggies come in a pouch or in a LOT of ketchup (maybe a few bites tops). She doesn't even like fruit not in a pouch! And I feel like she eats so little variety because the semi healthy foods she will eat is a small list. But it is what it is. I have enough battles to fight without fighting over food!

On the weekends (and now during maternity leave) I give my 5-year-old kid the iPad with headphones and let him watch shows/play games for like 3 hours so I can get extra sleep.

I watch my tv shows in front of my son- he could tell you all about the bachelor last season

Also my child still has 4-5 potty accidents a week- it's been awful trying to potty train him. So we told him we'll pay him a dollar each day he goes without peeing in his pants.

Oh man, this list is making me feel so much better about my choices! In general LO (2.5) is a great kid, but she's always been a terrible sleeper. We still use bottles (with water only) and rocking to get her to sleep at night...and I'm fine with that. She puts herself to sleep at naptime at daycare, so she's perfectly capable, but this is easier, much faster, and sweeter with the cuddles. I know we need to wean her from this routine, but...

@Mrs. Carrot: The effing pacifier! Yep, our 3.25 year old still uses one for sleep - dentist isn't concerned if that makes you feel any better. I always feel like I have to qualify it when friends ask about it. Honestly, we don't even care about the thing anymore - we've tried taking it so many times, and I figure she'll eventually get over it?? Hahaha.
