LO had his one year review this morning (although he's only just 11mo), and the HV was pretty firm that we need to start moving from bottles to cups very soon (she also said he needs to drop his 2 daytime bottles but that's a whole other story!).

I'm not too worried about this transition, but just wondering when others let go of the bedtime bottle and why?

When I asked the HV her main reason was that LO needs to learn how to drink normally from a cup, and not to be relying on sucking to comfort him. I do get this, and I do not want him to be walking round with a bottle during the day when he's a toddler, but I'm not sure why there is such a rush. Yes he absolutely does get comfort from the sucking at bedtime, but does that matter? He doesn't fall asleep during it and he has stories after, but the bottle really relaxes and winds him down - and I'm not sure why that has to stop just cause he's one! I imagine if we were breastfeeding we would not be encouraged to stop a bedtime feed?

How did this go for you?
