@nana87: I would ask your pediatrician. Mine was super against plane travel until after 2 month vaccinations (especially the whooping cough vac). So I'm takin my LO on a flight to see my family in 2 weeks, when she is just under 3 months old.

I couldn't have tolerated a flight at 6-7 weeks post partum, so there's also that to consider!

DS's first flight was at 6 months, and it was transatlantic. I think the earliest I would have flown was 3 months.

I don't think I would fly internationally with a baby that young unless absolutely necessary. There are vaccinations to consider. Also, you may not be able to obtain a passport that quickly. It took us 4 weeks to receive the birth certificate and, when we did apply for the passport when DS was 7-8 weeks, it took another 3-4 weeks to receive it. I'm sure there is a way to expedite papers, but I wouldn't count on it.

We flew at 3.5 months and it was great.

Like LaMariniere said, you'll need to hustle on getting your travel documents. We paid to expedite the passport and it arrived in 2 weeks IIRC.

We also flew at 3.5 months and it was really easy but it was not international. DS just slept the entire time.

3 months here also! He got sick after the flight....lots of germs

LO's first flight was at almost 10 weeks for a family reunion, she already had her 2 month vaccines a week before that flight. She did great, slept the entire way and received lots of compliments for being the best baby on the plane. The flight was during the summer, lots of family vacations were going on and the flight was full of crying children. It was only a 2 hour flight though so I don't know how well Babies could tolerate an international flight.
