I'll be 20 weeks this Friday, and my MIL just asked if we have a registry set up yet! Umm....I haven't even thought about it yet!!
Am I behind schedule already?!

I think we started a registry at Target once we found out the sex. I started an Amazon baby wishlist early though, because I would put things that caught my eye as I read articles/blogs/etc and turned the wishlist into a registry later.

@mrs.shinerbock: ohh okay, that makes sense! We are team green, so no finding out the sex for us. I guess we could start it any time then!

I started and almost-finished it last weekend, at 28 weeks! I think that's kind of on the late side.

I started around 18 weeks for the basics and then added gender stuff once we knew. I also had a Target and Amazon.

um.. before I conceived! Haha. It was private though, I just wanted to save things as I found/researched them.
It was "set up" and public around 20 weeks.

A bit before you but it was private. I added items as I researched them.

I already had some stuff saved on Amazon when I was TTC and came across random items so I won't forget. I continued to research and add stuff, once we found out the sex I officially made them.

I am 13 weeks and am considering starting a private one to save the items that I have read reviews about so I don't get confused and have to do more research later on.

I started it around 13 or 14 weeks just so I could have time to research stuff and not be rushed at all. I didn't tell anyone about them until much later after we'd found out the sex and the showers were scheduled.

@MrsBrewer: We did one at BRU right after 20weeks
But many things we registered for by the time I had my shower were discontinued
Be careful with that!

We didn't start anything until after the anatomy scan. I think I started a registry online at 25/26 weeks? First shower was at 29 weeks!
This time around I started a small, private one on Amazon just for myself for a list of things we want to buy!

@FaithFertility: good to know about the items being discontinued!! I wouldn't have even thought about that!
Hmm...I guess I could always just keep checking my registry, and make sure that everything is still available!

@MrsBrewer: it depends if you register at a store in person or online. I did not have that problem at Amazon but I did at Target.

If you do an in store registry I reccomend registering in store with a scanner to you are asking for what is actually available.

@youboots: Yep, I would definitely go to the store to register for places like Babies R Us, Target, etc.

I did at 25 weeks. I just wanted it at least started by the time my shower invites went out, but people don't really start getting shower gifts till it gets closer so I knew I had a lot of time to keep revamping it.

And just a tip.. we registered at Buy Buy Baby, they have an online registry list to give you an idea what you needed. I researched the big stuff ahead of time and wrote it on that sheet so when we went in I already had an idea of the big important things I wanted to scan and was able to show my husband in person. Then we just scanned some smaller fun things and came home after and looked up reviews on what I registered for and was able to make adjustments online. I also have an amazon registry but most of my things are on BBB because I don't think amazon would get used very much but I did find amazon super helpful when it came to reviews. BBB would maybe have 2-3 reviews on a product I was interested in and amazon would have hundreds.

8 weeks last time! After our losses, DH wanted to do something positive. We had some trouble with things at BRU being discontinued (they seem to have a high turnover rate, which is super annoying), but no trouble with Amazon. Don't remember really with Target.
I'm 10.5 weeks now, and just went in today and updated them with the new due date. I doubt we'll get much, since we had showers last time and got all we needed, but I want to be able to use them for first Christmas. Plus I'm sure some people will still buy gifts, even though we say not to, so I'd rather have some guide for them. Once we know if it's a girl or boy (hopefully this week!), I'll pull the girl stuff (if it's a boy) and update them a little more. But surprisingly most of the items were still available, so I didn't have to delete much.

We're at 9.5 weeks and will probably start this weekend because 1) we're finding things that we like and want to keep tabs on them; 2) DH will soon have a huge time commitment that will last until a week before the due date, so he won't have time to do it later; 3) we're having the shower at 28 weeks, which is on the early side; 4) we're thorough and somewhat indecisive, so we know it'll take us a while before we're comfortable publishing the registry to others; and 5) it will be fun
