I didn't with my first. I tend to change positions when heartburn makes it too uncomfortable

It got uncomfortable sometime around 30w. I would get light headed. I trusted my body to turn over when it wanted to. I dont think i would have stayed in a position that wasn't comfortable.
A snoogle really helped me sleep on my side.

Probably around 16 weeks or so I tried to limit it and by 20 I had stopped. My OB said that you will feel it if there is a problem.

I'm 24 weeks, and I will occasionally wake up in the middle of the night on my back. I normally just try to flip on my side and correct it then. I don't stress out about it too much.

28 weeks and still doing it sometimes. Memory foam bed, though. Sometimes i still wake up on my stomach, heh.

24 weeks here. Usually when I wake up in the morning, I roll on my back briefly to turn off my alarm, check email, weather, and IG. I hate sleeping on my side pregnant right now. My hips and butt hurt so much in general. I'm using a wedge pillow for my hips and a body pillow.

33 weeks here and I still do it. I get excruciating groin pain if I sleep on my side for too long.

I didn't/haven't. I make my snoogle into a circle and stick my butt down in it so I am inclined and a couple pillows and it is fantastic.

When it got uncomfortable. Literally no one in the history of the world has fallen asleep on their back and killed their baby. When it's not good for the baby, your body will tell you, and you won't do it. There's no reason to limit it if it's still comfortable.

I started making myself get used to sleeping on my side with my Snoogle at around 14-16 weeks. I'm 22 weeks now and occasionally still wake up on my back though.

@sarac: you are probably right, but I did read about one study done in women who had still births vs. successful pregnancies and the still birth moms were more likely to have been sleeping on their backs. I didn't read the actual study though... (I think there have been other studies too with similar results, though they're all correlational and don't prove causation...there could be other factors/confounds). I also read about another study that tracked women's reported sleep positions and outcomes that found that it didn't raise the risk of anything... so who knows. my OB said to try to stop after 22-24 weeks, or to elevate one hip by 10 degrees. She said it wasn't a big deal if I woke up on my back now and then though.

I'm 37 weeks and still wake up on my back sometimes. I fall asleep on side every night.

@78h2o: can you link any of those studies? I went on a PubMed binge about it during my first pregnancy, and didn't find a single thing to change my mind, so if anything is out there, I'd like to read it.

@78h2o: @sarac: Is this the study you were thinking of?
This post wouldn't let me add a link, so it's below.

I didn't. I rotated from side to back to side once I could no longer sleep on my stomach. If I slept on my side all night, my hips KILLED me -- even if I switched sides.
My OB showed me how to prop myself up a bit on a pillow so that I was reclined at a safe angle and not completely horizontal.

I'm 27 weeks and I love sleeping on my back. I force myself to go to sleep on my side by using a pillow in between my knees but I wake up on my back quite a bit. If I do, I just correct myself and go back to sleep. But I can't wait for the day I can sleep on my back again worry free.

I didn't stop sleeping on my back. I tried to sleep on my sides, but my back was usually more comfortable and my doctor said it as fine.

36 weeks tomorrow and I still sleep on my back. Not the whole night, I switch from one side, to the other, and to my back. Whatever to get comfortable.

27wks & I still probably sleep much of the night on my back. I fall asleep on my side, but always wake up on my back. I've been thinking I need to dig for a body pillow I have stored away somewhere, but I don't think that'll change my sleeping position.

I never sleep on my stomach, but I slept on my back all the way through pregnancy. I slept in whatever position was comfortable.

@simplyfelicity: a wedge pillow under my regular pillow and a pregnancy pillow that I sort of wrap around myself. I don't spend all night on my back but if I am I have to be inclined enough to avoid heartburn.
