What has been the cause? I could feel last night that DD was burning up but I wasn't getting a good read on our ear thermometer. No other symptoms beside some clinginess.
I bought a rectal thermometer and almost died when I took her temp at 6...it was 103. Just took it again before bed and it was 102.6. I try and take a wait and see approach but I'll prob call her ped in the am if the fever still persists. So weird with no other symptoms!

Ear infection with a 104.5... She spiked another fever tonight 102 but we put her to bed and will see how she does tonight. In fact, this was her as we were reading books... She NEVER does this.

@yellowbird: strep is the one thing neither chilis has had (knocking on wood). She isn't eating and only nursing so I do wonder if her throat hurts.
Usually both kids get ear infections with high fevers...we will see!

The highest she ever had was 104.5. It was flu, which I knew because DH and I got it first. 
She's also been around 103 several times with bad stomach bugs.

Ear infections. Roseola. Well, my LO gets very high fevers with even a cold but then it's obvious he has a cold.

Once it was an ear infection. Once it was just a random virus that ran its course over a couple of days. She didn't seem too affected by it but was sleeping crappy at night. I had her checked at the ped but just a random virus.

@matador84: we are dealing with this too. 103 in the four year old with no other symptoms. I thought it broke today at nap but u bed time is was back. Off to the doctor for a strep test tomorrow I think.

@T.H.O.U.: ugh, you would think by not being at daycare dd wouldn't get sick. I can tell tonight is going to be a long night, she's practically radiating heat she's so hot.

Croup, a random virus, and a stomach bug. Poor thing, I hope she feels better soon!

Same as @Foodnerd81... Once ear infection and once random virus where we went to the ped on fever day 1 and ears, everything were fine. Day 2 -- 104.3 an hour after Advil! Only alternating Tylenol and Advil brought it down. Day 3 it hung around the 101-102s and then the next morning we were ready to take him back to the dr but he woke up better!
I hate that feeling when the huge number pops up. I actually made a fever thread on that last virus because I was so worried and the ped's nurse echoed what many said here about alternating the meds and that the fever itself was okay but to just watch for dehydration.

For us it was always just random viruses that brought 3 days of fever and then usually a rash after. Once they even feared meningitis because he also had petechia so off to the ER we went. Luckily I turned out to be another weird virus, so nothing major at all.

Random cold virus that lasted about a week after we took him to urgent care on a Friday night (his fever was near 104*).
The other time his fever was over 102 was due to an ear infection.
