...did it just happen over night, literally? LO has been up every 3 hours for the past few weeks (she is almost 5 months old), and I don't see much changing anytime soon. I'm wondering if I will get lucky though and one night it will just "click" and she will STTN. Has this happened with your LO?

Interested in this! We've been working on sleep training, but he's still waking up 1-2 times a night to nurse.

It started suddenly at eight weeks and she never went back to waking up regularly...she only wakes up now when she is really sick.

Nope, very gradually. He woke up 2-3 times until 6 months, 2 times from roughly 6-9 months, 1 time from 9-12 months, and then FINALLY, no wakings after about 12 months.

Happened gradually for us, but very quickly and very early on (from week 6to week 8 of life she transitioned from 2-4 night wakeups down to zero.
Two steps forward and one step back (like she would STTN two nights and on the third night shed have one wake up again in the middle. )

@Bao: You're telling me! He actually had about a week of it at 10 months, but then we moved and screwed it up! On the flip side, ever since he started STTN, he is a rock star. I've only been in that room *once* in the middle of the night in the past seven months.
Are you nursing? Once he started eating a lot of table food, things started to get better. He also started self-weaning after he started STTN.

She just started all on her own at 6ish months. I didn't sleep train, I did and 'accidental CIO' in that she woke up one night, cried and I took to long to get to her (like 4 or 5 minutes) by the time I got to her room she was sleeping again. After that, she just stopped waking at night!

@Mrs. Yoyo: Yes I am still nursing, she is 5 months old we just started veggies but she gets only maybe a tablespoon a day so it will be a while before I really get into the solids stage.

I'm wondering this as well. LO has never been a great sleeper - but 4 month wakefulness hit us like a truck and he's never looked back! He currently wakes up about 4-5 times every night and nurses each time. He's a VERY active baby, so it doesn't surprise me that he still needs to eat throughout the night.
My main issue is when he wakes up only 40 minutes - 1 hour after I put him down. Also, anytime after 3am is tough to put him back down at all.
I just finished reading The No Cry Sleep Solution and we're on our 2nd day of Phase 1. While it seems to be working ok, it's definitely impacting his sleep and making things more difficult. I'm assuming that's to be expected?? I'm just wondering when things will start to get a bit better. I'm so tired, and I figure LO must be too

@Bao - so far it seems to be going ok (except for the fact that it hasn't helped him sleep any longer haha!). I mean, I get the concept and I think it's a good one...it just seems like a very lonnnng process. We're planning on keeping on with Phase 1 for 10 days in order to see if there's any sort of difference before we consider moving onto something else.
CIO for us isn't really an option, as he will just continually escalate until he either makes himself sick or hoarse. Sigh. -
@Keppa: We have that issue too. LO starts off in a dozy whine, and by the end she's got crocodile tears and can hardly breathe. Definitely not for her. At least not at this point.

Gradual for us...he was down to one waking around 4 months old at about 3 or 4am. Over the next month he slowly started waking up later and later in the early AM. So at 6 months he was sleeping straight through until 5:30am and now at 7 months he sleeps straight through until 6:45am.
