We have an expandable dining table, so we bought 4 extra chairs for when we put the leaf in. These are solid wood chairs and can be heavy to carry around. Right now we have the extra chairs in the bonus room, but I feel like they are taking up a lot of space, and they aren't good lounging chairs, because there's no padding on them. I read that you shouldn't store wood furniture in the attic or garage, because of temperature fluctuations and humidity, so I'm wondering what to do with them. Where do you store extra chairs in your home?

I don’t have extra chairs, but I’ve seen people put them in the corners of the dining room.

@Jennibenni: That wouldn’t work for us, because our dining area has a large bay window on one side, and then it’s open to the living room on the other side. So there is no wall space to put extra chairs against

Ours are not fancy. So in the garage. If you are fine replacing them if they chip or warp I’d just store in the garage.
My parents store tons of antiques in a storage unit and have as long as I can remember I don’t think it’s climate controlled.

@youboots: we did store a ton of our furniture in a garage for 2 years while we built our house and it was totally fine. Even our dining room table which we had refinished a few years prior

We have them in our basement and on occasion when we’re lazy we just put them in the laundry room because we have the space to do so.

We have four extra chairs, two that are padded and two that are heavy-duty wooden folding. So the padded ones go in our bedroom - I sit in one to do my makeup/hair inn the morning and my husband uses his to position his fan. The two folding ones go beneath our couch.

Ours are in the basement in the storage area under the stairs.

Do you have anything in your bay window? We have 4 extra chairs - we keep 2 as a "sitting area" in a bay window in another room and then 2 we use as office chairs. I'm not sure if it'd be weird in the bay window in the same room, but we just have them with a tiny accent table.

We just keep them all in the dining room. The table stays expanded and the chairs live in there. But then we only have 6 of them I think. I pull in kitchen chairs when we have 8 or 10 people.

I’ve been to people’s houses who have them kind of randomly around the house. One at a desk in an office, one in the guest room, one in the corner, etc..

I keep them along one wall and in a few places in the living area (right next to the dining room). We rarely keep them pulled up to the table because it only seats four and we have 8 chairs (there's a larger table we move in if we need it)

@aprild: Not a great storage solution, but we keep our extra chairs in the corner of our office.

Ours are in our entry way - great to have a place to get shoes on and off.
Growing up they were in the corners of the dining room.

I like to have a chair in each bedroom, so I would put two in the master, maybe with a small table in between, one in the guest room and one in my dressing room, at the desk I have in there. This only works because our house is all on one level, though. I wouldn't want to be dragging them up/down stairs.
