For those of you that work outside of the home and don't work near home, where is your daycare? My husband and I were talking about this the other day. I work 30 miles and he works 45 miles away from home. Thankfully we work in the same direction. We will have to decide if we should get a daycare near home and have that option there or spend more time with our LO and have daycare near work.

well we're in new york where people generally don't have cars. our daycare is the closest one to us -- one and a half blocks away. but there are about 4 other daycares within 4 blocks or so.

We live in Long Island. I work in the city and hubby works in Connecticut. So, we decided a daycare near our home. Our daycare is about 5-8 mins drive from our house and 15 mins drive from the Long Island Railroad.

We are near Boston. I highly recommend finding a daycare close to home. Ours happens to be ultra convenient for my husband, but is in completely the opposite direction for my commute (and I am the primary drop off parent). You don't want to imagine a time when your baby is sick, but it is likely to happen that you will need to leave work to pick up a sickie at aome point. It is far better, in my opinion, to be closer to home than driving 30 miles with a feverish baby.

Ours is about 6 minutes from home, and we work about 1o minutes from home in the opposite direction. I also think it's better to have daycare close to home, though. Sometimes babies go through phases where they hate the car, and in those moments, you'll be glad to minimize the car time.

DH and I will be trying to figure this out as well, although in our case we work in opposite directions from one another, both 30-40 min. Friends have suggested looking closer to home, both because spending time in the car with baby isn't really good time spent together, and because you never know what could happen with a job, and then you might have a daycare that is near nothing. Also, there is the off chance that you/DH could both be home sick enough that you would want to drop baby off at daycare so you could focus on getting better.

Our daycare is about 5 mins from our home. We drop him off together and then drive to a subway stop to commute into the city-- the drive is about 15-30 mins depending on traffic. Kind of stinky to drive and then take the train, but it's much more convenient and flexible (and cheaper!) than taking the commuter rail into our town. And we've already had to pick up a feverish RJ from daycare once, so we don't regret choosing a daycare near home at ALL. Plus, Monday is my flex day so I can choose to drop him off at daycare if I have work to do at home, and it would be much more inconvenient to drive him to a daycare near the city.

Ours is 2 mins away (by walk) and happens to be on the same street as my mom. So at times she goes and pick up Mavrick. Which is nice!

I take the train to work so it is on the way to the train station. The commute would be too tough for the little guy (and me!) but would be nice to be closer to him during the dya.
