I'm going on a girls trip to Austin in February - wondering if anyone who's been or lives there can recommend an area where we should stay or a specific hotel or AirBnB?
Also if you have any must-do's, let me know!

Oh man, there's several really cute boutique hotels on South Congress where you have lots of cute shops and local eateries. Or the Driscoll. It depends on your budget, really. I went on a girls trip in May and we stayed out of town at the Hyatt Lost Pines which was AMAZING. But it might be too far away if you're wanting to stay IN Austin.
There's so many must do's.... eat good BBQ. Either Franklin's, Salt Lick, and I've heard LA Bbq is good too. There's a great sushi place called Uchi. Pretty much any where has live music on the weekends. There's some cool breweries in town if you're into that. Wineries are out of town a little ways, but there's a ton if you go out towards Fredericksburg. You can book a tour leaving from downtown though. I'll keep thinking about other things... Austin is a fun town!
Edit: February is a tricky month. We had ice storms 2 years ago, but this past Feb was beautiful and warm! So you never know what will happen in that month, so just be prepared for that.

http://travaasa.com Travaasa is great for a girls getaway! You can relax, spa, run or hike on trails and do some crazy fun things like bull riding and a ropes course. Though it is away from the night life, so it depends on what you are looking for.

Are you looking to relax? or party? I suggest the W - It's walking distance to everything downtown.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: that place looks amazing!! We are trying to do this semi-cheap though so it's out of range right now, but I definitely want to go there some day! Thanks for all the ideas of places to hit, and the warning about February, unfortunately it's the only time we can all go so hopefully the weather will cooperate!
@Thenetexan: That also looks amazing but definitely more expensive than I was hoping for, such a cool resort!!
@wheres_c: I'll check out the W, thanks! We want to relax and just catch up with each other, so probably lots of eating and drinking involved

If you like Japanese/sushi, I'd definitely check out Uchi or Uchiko! My dh says it's the best he's ever had in the US. We're going to Austin in December and I can't wait to try it out!

@HappyBaker: if you're looking to relax and hang out, there's so many awesome restaurants in Austin. I'd also check Home Away for house rentals. It's a local Austin company.
Also check out vintage villas on groupon or living social. They tend to have specials and they have a great breakfast and view of the lake, but it is away from downtown.
You must eat tacos while you're here. Check out some trailer eateries too.

We stayed at Habitat Suites right outside of Austin and loved it! It was walking distance to the train to downtown Austin, and had a great breakfast and free happy hour

@chopsuey: Uchi is great. We have one in Houston too. YUM!

@MrsKRB: That place looks great and is so cheap!! Did you guys rent a car to get there? Or just take a cab / train from the airport? Did the trains run frequently enough?
nectarine / 2465 posts
@HappyBaker: We took an Uber from the airport to the hotel, and used it again late at night coming back from downtown. The train runs frequently, but I think it's mostly used as a commuter train so it does stop at like 6P or so, which stinks. But like I said, Uber is easy to use and fairly cheap.

@HappyBaker: Uber would probably be your best bet for getting around, other than renting s car. Public transportation here is not good. Also, traffic is horrible! Lol. If it were me, I'd try to stay as close as possible to where I'd be mostly hanging out.
Other things I thought of: Broken Spoke for two-stepping or line dancing. It's a classic Austin institution!
Guero's taco bar on South Congress is great. Mariachi's come in and will play for your table for tips.
Home slice pizza is also very good and local Austin place. Magnolia and Kerby Lane Cafes are good cheaper food. Chuy's and Trudy's has amazing Tex-mex. Get the Mexican martini at Trudy's! They are STRONG though. They cut you off at 2 of them, haha. Cedar street bar has good Mexican martinis too. There's tons of bars on 6th, but it's more college party street. 4th Street has some bars and east 6th has good bars for us older folks
Eta: I forgot about Torchy's (although they are more of a chain now), they have great great tacos!
