We didn't travel much as a kid, so probably our Disneyland trips. With our kids so far, maybe Maui?

Growing up we pretty much always went to Flagstaff, AZ to see family. My grandparents lived there, it was an easy drive, and my uncle's family would spend summers there.

We also love Kiawah, SC, my husband's family went there every year and we've been a couple times with kids.

I love San Juan Island and Orcas Island, WA, but haven't been with kids yet.

My absolute favorites with kids have been Grand Teton, Yellowstone, and Rocky Mountain National Parks. We get cabins near the parks and just spend a week exploring everything.

My parents have a boat and we would spend 1-2 weeks in the San Juan Islands every summer - always looked forward to it.

We never went abroad as kids, just to Wales or other arts of England in a caravan, which was fun.
We are having our first family vacay to Spain next month. I am sooo excited!

I think the best trips I have taken with my son where when we went to the Mediterranean coast. He was small enough where he was well behaved and kind of rolled with the punches. Now, he's a little more tempremental.

As a kid, I think the best vacations were actually our summer staycations. We didn't travel much, but we belonged to a pool club...those were the days.

As a kid, I remember loving San Francisco for some reason (I cried at the end of our vacation). We did Oahu when I was in high school and I realllly loved it there. And we did Disneyworld almost every year, and that was always fun.

So far, our best trip with my LO was to Disneyworld just a couple weeks ago, but we haven't had good luck with vacations at all so far, so that really just means it was the first time we've been able to do a vacation without someone getting deathly ill.

We went to the beach and skiing a good amount when I was growing up, but I think my favorite family trip was a trip from where we lived in Texas to Edmonton, Alberta.

When I was in 5th grade, I read about the biggest mall in the word, which happened to be in Edmonton. I begged to go there. Finally when I was in 8th grade, my parents took our whole family over Christmas break, and for Christmas, I got $300 to spend at the mall on clothes and accessories to wear to school. I was so, so excited. hahaha.

Also, my dad flew the plane on the way there and back (that's how the trip got arranged, he got put on the Dallas-Edmonton route for a few months), so that was super cool too, to hear my dad making the pilot announcements and stuff. Also, he arranged for the flight attendants to give us the first class meals back in coach.

I grew up (and currently live) in a state that is blessed with an abundance of national parks, and equally amazing state parks. My parents had a pop-up trailer and we would just travel to the parks...it was so fun! Lots of natural beauty and it was great hiking around and catching lizards and looking for animal skeletons and finding "secret" trails. What made it fun is that it was just our family, hanging out, with no distractions.

When we were older (and my parents more well-off) we would take more elaborate trips, like to Hawaii or Washington, DC. Those trips were great, too, but it's the camping trips that I really cherish!!

@DenverMom: Go! The worst part is the flight, but that's to anywhere. The first time LO1 was two. The second time LO1 was 4, LO2 was 10 months. We are leaving again soon and LO1 is 5 and LO2 will be 20m.

We went to Maui last year and we had an amazing time! LO was old enough to enjoy the pool and beach. We had a beautiful room at the resort and the service was amazing. We also loved all of the restaurants we tried.

I would love to go back!

@DenverMom: My kids were 2 and 4! They both did really well even on the flight. I think your 3 year old will love it, and I think the main challenge with the 1 year old might be the flight! How many hours would it take you to fly to Maui?

@Mrs. High Heels: You give me hope! I just looked up flights and the shortest I found was around 9-10 hours. Most of the flights are actually at night (leave in the afternoon and arrive in the morning).

We had a few close family friends and I loved all the vacations we went on with them! More fun with more kids!

@Anagram: Nizuc $$$$ Worth every single penny.
When we were there they told us that 90% of their guests are from NYC

Another amazing family friendly place that doesn't feel too kiddie is the Viceroy in Anguilla. Also very expensive but also worth every penny.
Sort of a pain to get to, but once you're there it is pure heaven.

ETA: viceroy also had drop off activities, but I believe only for older kids like three or maybe four. Stuff like cupcake decorating and kids yoga on the beach. I'm not sure if they have drop off services for infants.
Nizuc had drop off for any age. Four years and older it was free. Under four it was $20 an hour. But $40 for 2 hrs of uninterrupted pool time was totally worth it to us. I read a book and closed my eyes and had 2 piña coladas.
Nizuc property is huge and uses golf carts to get around. It's totally not a problem because the golf carts come by every minute or so. Restaurants are abundant, I think there's only one that was no kids. Or maybe it was no kids after a certain time. Either way it was no problem. We didn't leave the property once and felt no regrets about it. They are very accommodating and give you everything that you need in your room. They even have highchairs that you can request in advance and keep in the room the whole time. Like real high chairs with trays.
