What kind of a pre-K is it? Did you have to apply? Lottery? Is it free or tuition based? What are you excited about or worried about? And how does your LO feel about it?

Ds1 is starting pre-K this fall. It is a public school and we were in the lottery. I am very happy that we got a spot! We still have to pay a tuition of about $500 a month. I'm really excited about the early start time, because it will make my mornings a lot easier. I'm also excited for the transition because I feel like he is ready and up for the challenge of a more structured day. He is excited about going to the big school, but yesterday he expressed that he was a little sad about leaving his preschool.

We are doing a private pre-k this fall at a nature preschool! He did nursery school there this year and will move up to the older class this fall! We love it there! All of the same kids will be in his class with a few new kids too It's pretty expensive but none of them were free, and we love the small classroom size! Not really too worried since we decided to stay with the same school.

@travellingbee: this year it was just him and 7 others!
Next year there might be 2 more I think.

We are sending LO to a 2.5s program 2 days a week. We wanted to get her acclimated a bit before she starts full blown pre k in 2018. It's private and was fairly $$ but honestly no more per hour than what we pay her part time nanny on an hourly basis. I'm not looking forward to being on a loose school year calendar but I guess it has to start sometime. It might free up sometime though if we have #2. I also have the option to extend to a full day of we need to do that is a perk (but $$).

@hellobeeboston: ah I'm so envious of this. My dream is to send her to a German nature kinder...but alas we don't live near nature nor in Germany. Womp womp.

DD1 is going to a church based 3's program 3 days a week. (It's tuition based). I'm mostly excited for her. She's been asking to go to school for a long time and talks about it a lot. I do worry about the level of independence that will be expected of her. It's all things I know she is capable of but has a difficult time doing when asked at home.

DD1 starts preK this fall. We're sending her to the Catholic school affiliated with our parish. It's three days a week which I think will be a nice transition since she's always been home full time with me until now. She'll go to public kindergarten the following year. She's really excited about, and I know she's ready.

Our LO is going to a Montessori preschool this fall. She will be the youngest (barely the minimum age of 2.5) in a class of 2.5-4 year olds. It will cost way less per hour than our part-time nanny. We love the school, and they have a lot of outdoor time. I'm excited.
We had to apply but it was pretty simple. This particular school is nonprofit and costs less than most daycares in the area.

We'll be in her last year of preschool (4's program) for 5 days a week which I think is s helpful transition for K. It's private - we don't have any universal pre-K programs around here.

LO will be attending three year old preschool two days a week (he did one day this year), and then four year old preschool 3-4days a week in 2018 (he is a Nov kiddo). We do not have a public preschool/pre-k option here—there is one school in district, but you must qualify for services (speech, occupational, emotional etc).

My oldest will be going to pre-k4 this next year. This year, she was in Pre-k3. It is a full day, public program and they do have a lottery. But it's a big lottery. I think last year, 800 applied and there were 540 seats, and LO got in. It's been a really great year for her--her head teacher was really great (I was a little skeptical because she looks YOUNG) and the assistant teacher took a special liking to LO. And she made a lot of great friends and learned so much. I've been blown away by what she can do now, getting close to the end of the school year.
Now she tries to sound out words and write them and she's doing whole sentences like that--and she won't turn 4 until July. Like today she wrote, "I am going to wrk at the str" = I am going to work at the store. I can't believe she spelled everything right by herself except work and store and even those are pretty close to how they sound. Anyway, it's been great and I've been really pleased with everything they've done this year. It's all play based, but still she learns so much.
