We just started cloth diapering our youngest who is almost one year old. We primarily chose to do it for financial reasons. We were spending $45 a month on diapers and I was just over it! We got a complete stash of CD's and everything we need to go with it for under $200, so if she is potty trained at the same time her big sister was then we will save about $600-$700. Not a ton but every penny counts!
Why did you choose to go the cloth diaper route?

Environmental reasons, the cute factor, and the cost savings. Even though I still use disposables (like right now dealing with a stomach virus), we keep so many diapers (and poop) out of landfills.

Initially decided to try cloth before LO was born, so we bought 4 diapers just to see how we liked it - mostly for cost savings and because I couldn't fathom literally throwing away that much money on disposables...
Once LO was born and fit into one-size CDs, I found they were so much easier to put on than disposables (easier to get a good fit, didn't sag) and poop was much better contained! I think we've had maybe 2 blow outs in cloth and they weren't even that bad. We love our cloth!

@MrsS_Alpha: Yes! We've been doing disposables this weekend because of the stomach virus and she's blown out twice. It's so gross.

We're not doing it yet (still cookin our fetus!), but it is our plan largely for cost reasons. I prefer making less waste too, but, I think the environmental benefits are a little less clear once you factor in the water and electricity use for cloth.

Mostly for the cost. I was excited that they were super cute and better for the environment, but really those were just bonus reasons. Money was the biggest factor.

Planning on CDing, for me it's that I hate the chemicals in disposables. But I sold DH by emphasizing the financial side.

Environmental/health + Financial reasons were the main factors. Past that: they are cute, I find them convenient, and I liked the idea of her wearing a cotton like material (versus paper).

Skin health and people talking about the blow outs being nonexistent. Cost is a perk but not our main reason. Environmental didn't even hit my radar. I wear cotton undies, so why shouldn't she, most of the time? 
I also like how thick they are. I feel like as often as E runs around without clothes, she's somehow less naked? Silly, I know

I just wanted to give it a try bc the thought of all the bags of diapers in the trash was a little too much for me. I did a mix of cloth and flushable diapers (gdiapers) and I loved them!!! No blowouts were a huge plus for me - all my friends had multiple blowouts in their disposable. And I loved not carrying out bags of diaper trash. And her fluffy baby butt was just too cute!

Years ago, environmental reasons and concerns about the chemicals convinced me that cloth was the way to go for any future LOs. Then I switched to primarily cloth for myself (for AF), and I find it *so* much more pleasant, so that was another tally in cloth's favor. More recently, the cost benefit has become another plus.

Primarily because I have horribly sensitive skin and am allergic to everything it feels like, and I expected our LO to be the same (turns out she is, so that was a good guess). Secondarily because of cost savings. Thirdly because I knew we wouldn't actually take nursery trash out every day and the idea of storing a bunch of poop filled diapers in her room for days grossed me out. Lastly because they are super cute.

Mainly cost and less blowouts / diaper rash. I've also heard that they can make potty training easier. And they're cute, which doesn't hurt.
Honestly, environmental stuff is a total non-factor for me.

I was hopeful about the potty training thing but cloth hasn't encouraged my 2.5 year old.
