why do people make such a huge deal about Spam?

I love it and pretty much grew up on it. DH didn't, so he doesn't care for it and thinks it's also not something we need to be stocking in our pantry. One day it'll appear in there....

Never had it. I wouldn't be averse to trying it but I wouldn't buy it either.

I love spam! I like it fried or in fried rice, but I wouldn't eat it out of the can.

I think people just don't like mixed meat, thus the 'not real' reputation. Also canned meat has this stigma of poverty because it is usually more convenient and seemingly cheaper than fresh protein. I don't think it is too high in nutrition and/or probably high in fat.
That said, I like Spam musubi and kids in Hawaii often get it packed in their fieldtrip lunches. If you get a Spam musubi from your mom, there is bound to be someone who looks over and drools with an envious, "Lucky!" Not to mention all 7-11s and gas mini marts are filled with them...in the morning until sold out.

We might be one or two generations away from Spam being the new 🥓 bacon nationwide.

I've never had it, but considering I love bologna and hot dogs...it's probably not that far off. I will admit the "canned" aspect of it weirds me out, but I would try it fried!

My dad used to eat it, I think it reminded him of when he first came to the US.

I've tried it and it has some kind of seasoning in it that I don't care for.

I've never had it. I am also not much of a meat eater and tend to shy away from more processed meats. However, I don't judge people who do like it or think its a big deal at all.

I eat it; it's a little too salty for me so I eat it probably less than hot dog (I eat bologna even less), but it's a "staple" in my culture. In an egg sandwich, in a bowl of ramen.... I guess to us it's interchangeable with hotdog almost.
