We have been TTC for a few months now and I just found out I will be losing my job in June. So the question is, do we put the TTC on hold until things are more settled? Have you started a new job/ interviewed pregnant? How soon after starting a new job is "acceptable" to get pregnant?

What field are you in? Is it easy to find work in your field? Are you in the US? I may be a little cautious because you need to work for a year to qualify for FMLA leave.

I waited 3 months after starting a new job to be sure I would be eligible for FMLA.

Personally, I would wait until I knew I would have a job, unless you think you can make it work on only 1 income? We were ttc and I started a new in August, we took off a few months so that I would be eligible for FMLA.

Last year, my husband interviewed a newly (not showing) pregnant woman. When she finally started the job she waited a few weeks to let my husband know she was pregnant and would need to take leave within the first six months of hire. Her leave was a month long and I believe was all unpaid.
A friend of mine found a job while she was very pregnant. She only took a week or two off, it was her second baby. There have been stories on HB of women switching jobs newly pregnant and even showing.
While it sucks to get laid off, you have 4-5 months to find a new job. I'm a worry wart when it comes to things, so I would likely wait until I knew for certain that I had another job. However, landing a new job while TTC or pregnant is doable.

I think I'd try to get a new job asap and then reevaluate after working a few months.

@Areem: I accepted a job at 20ish weeks pregnant. It was my first so concealing it wasn't too hard. As soon as I signed the job offer I did let my company know I was pregnant and I asked for 8 weeks leave after baby came. It was all unpaid but no one seemed upset about it.

I am TTC, and just accepted a new job. It took us 6 months to conceive the first time, just to end in a MC. The job isn't my dream job, and I probably could be more ambitious with my job search, so if I do get KU right away and lose the job I don't think it will be the end of the world. My husband and I can survive on one income for a while, especially since I can start building on that nest egg for the next 8+ months, and I think I'll be able to find new work easily when it comes down to it.
In your situation I think it really depends on if this is the job/ career you see yourself at for the long hall, if you can find new work easily, and if you can survive on one income with a newborn for while on a possible new job search.

I got a new job in October, and we had started casually TTC in August. We put off TTC for a few months, I wanted to try to be there for a whole year.

Can you start looking for a new job now to speed the job hunt process along? I think it's a bit of a moral dilemma to interview pregnant if you aren't able/willing to share this during the interview process. While it doesn't affect who you are as an employee in the long run, it could be seen as slightly dishonest to interview knowing you'd want to take a significant amount of time off within a few months of starting (depending on timing of both getting pg & landing the interviews). Employers usually have to justify the opening & are counting on the new hire to be there & up to speed within a certain amount of time. But you also have the right to not disclose your personal situation... Not sure this is a helpful answer...

I don't have much advice to give regarding a new job, but I wanted to let you know that we are in a somewhat similar situation and we decided not to put TTC on hold. I work for a small non-profit company and budget wise things aren't looking very good for us right now. If we don't get a few grants/projects very soon, we will likely need to close down in a few months. I haven't started looking for a new job yet because I feel sort of loyal to the other employees and I don't want to jump ship too soon on the chance that we can make the company work (I've been there almost 6 years). However, my first LO turned 18 months in December and I don't want her and LO 2 to be too far apart in age. So we decided to start trying for LO2 this December anyway. One of our big deciding factors was that if my company does close in a few months, I think we can make it work on one salary for a few months while I find a new job (my job field is relatively small).

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm reluctant to hold off since I'm over 30 and I will likely on be in this next job for a couple years. I'm in academia so it's pretty normal to do a couple of shorter training positions before you land a long term job. And I'm likely to be over 35 at that time. But it is really scary not knowing what if any leave I will be eligible for if I get pg.
