There are some sheets that I love but they aren't made anymore - my mom found a set on eBay and bought me them.
Part of me is super excited and part of me is creeped out (bed bugs - eek).
Would you buy used sheets?

I've used hand me down sheets for the kids, but not sure I would purchase used ones..

No, I wouldn't buy used sheets. Even at hotels I rather sleep on the same shared sleeps for my entire stay than get new "used" ones daily.
Now that you have them wash them twice, throw them on the bed, and forget about the origins.

Ehhh, I'd like to say no, but....
People buy used cloth diapers, so are used sheets all the different? Just wash them a bunch on really hot water, and use some color safe bleach, if possible. Bleach kills everything, doesn't it?

I bought some used Sesame Street sheets for my daughter off eBay and they have been fine. But I really wanted them because they're the same ones I had when I was little. I wouldn't ever buy sheets from a thrift store though- not sure why this is different in my head. But I buy used clothes, so I guess there isn't much difference.

@ValentineMommy: @LulaBee: that's true - we buy used clothes and I don't think twice about it!

Hmm maybe? It would depend if they were used once or twice or for years.

I would say why not, I'm sure you will washing them before you use them. I guess you can think of it as sleeping in a hotel, they are used sheets that you are sleeping on.

I have. Not really any different than purchasing used clothes or furniture. I do live in an area with some bedbug risk, so, I'm more wary now, but I would still get them. Just put the directly into the wash.

not grown up sheets.... i don't like to think about what other people had done on them or what bodily fluids may have been on there. i mean as long as they are laundered in hot water and dried in the dryer, there's really no reason not to use them, it's more of a metal thing for me, but rationally there's no reason they shouldn't be used.

Well, I purchased crib sheets off the HB classifieds last year. My kids are sleeping on them right now!

I don't think so, unless you have some excellent sure fire way to kill everything that had ever existed on that sheet prior!

My initial reaction was no but then I read through some of the responses (ones that brought up used clothing, hotel sheets, etc.) and realized my answer is somewhat silly. I'd probably wash the heck out of them and go for it.
persimmon / 1396 posts
First thought was um absolutely not. But then again, we buy used clothes, and thats really no different
Wash them in hot water and enjoy your sheets!
pomegranate / 3401 posts
I would say no because I feel like there are so many sheet choices out there, I could probably find a different set I liked!

I bought a used crib skirt. It was a design that was discontinued and after searching everywhereeee, I could only find it on eBay. The lady I bought it from included a free sheet in the same design. I was pleasantly surprised! I just washed it and it's on rotation with the rest of LOs sheets. I wouldn't necessarily seek out a used sheet considering you could get a plain colored sheet to match, fine. But, I'm not grossed out by it

No...but I do sleep on hotel sheets? I like to believe hotels have a way of getting ALL THE GERMS out of them but they probably don't haha.
Oh, I did buy used crib bedding from another HBer and I didn't think twice about it!!

@HLK208: bleach FTW!
I can't imagine a situation in which I would buy used sheets for myself. I don't care how they look, only how comfy they are
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Ginabean3: I think this is the only reason I have for saying no, too. There are probably just as nice, if not nicer sheets out there if you searched for them.
Otherwise, throw them in the wash. A hot cycle in the wash will get out germs.

Meh. I dont have strong feelings one way or the other. I mean... maybe?
pomelo / 5509 posts
100% absolutely never ever ever. But I am a germaphobe. I'm sure that technically they'd be totally fine if you washed them in hot water, but the thought of sleeping on sheets that others leaked bodily fluids onto. No.
I realize this is what you do at a hotel, but hotels skeeve me out too, and at least the sheets are usually white and hopefully bleached...
persimmon / 1316 posts
No I wouldn't. I feel like sheets are pretty affordable and I not super important to me as far as brand or material so I would rather pick some up from target knowing where they have been.

I'm a germophobe! I also wouldn't buy used clothes, or cloth diapers though.

@dc yoga bee: Agree re: used cloth diapers. I wouldn't buy LO used underwear so definitely not cloth diapers!
