lol my hubs and i joke that we'll have to move to another country when the u.s. falls. i wouldn't mind moving overseas and having my kids learn new languages and cultures, but i'm afraid i won't really be able to communicate with my kids if they learn a language i'm not familiar with.... like a lot of immigrants and their kids in the states.

Yes! I did it growing up! And I loved every second of it. Children are very adaptable, and don't have the pre-judgements that many adults have. Plus, they learn new languages very easily. I am now fluent in Spanish, which I use every day, even though I have moved back to the States.

I would! I did this as a kid (lived in Korea from age 10-17) and it was a great experience, although not always easy. I went to American school there though - I don't think I would have survived Korean school.

Most definitely! If the right opportunities were available and hubby and I had our finances in order; we would love to raise our children (even temporarily) overseas. I think it is a great experience and adds a dynamic sense of culture to a child's life.

I would love love love to. I studied abroad and it was absolutely the best experience of my life. Whether or not we'll be able to do it with kids, I have no idea. Our jobs don't travel well right now.

My husband and I live in tokyo now because of his job. Before this we lived in Bangkok for 3 years. Most of our expat friends are parents and their kids are very happy. They're almost all bilingual or trilingual ( English plus parents' native languages). Most of them go to international school, which is very expensive but usually the tuition is included in hubby's work contract. This way, if the parents ever decide to move back to their home country, the kids will be able to fit right into the school system.

We're really happy to have this kind of opportunity. Since we're in Asia, it's so easy to take little trips to other Asian countries because it's so close and affordable. Hubby's work contract also includes a free flight for the whole family to the States once a
year.

Culturally, it's great for kids. Most of our friends here are European, Japanese, or other Asians. I think their kids are more tolerant and knowledgable about other cultures and customs because their friends are so internationally diverse.

I live abroad and love it. I am here because I wanted to go abroad in college and didn't, so when it came time to decide where to live after I married my European husband, we chose Europe. It's been a tough transition, but I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. So yes, I'd strongly consider moving again.

We are living abroad (Taiwan) and love being able to easily travel around Asia. We do go back to the U.S, during the summers. We are planning to send our son to local school during his elementary years so that he gets a good foundation in Mandarin Chinese. Right now he goes to a bi-lingual nursery school (mostly Mandarin, though) and can speak 3 different languages: English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese.

My husband (half Taiwanese, half French-Irish American) is a Third Culture Kid himself as grew up in different countries, and I traveled a lot as a child, so we really want our son to appreciate and understand different cultures. Oh, and my husband is also multilingual (he speaks 6 languages really well) and I've struggled to learn languages as an adult, so in that respect, we want our son to be more like his dad!
