We received an email from our doctor last night, and she'll be starting a yearly membership fee for her patients ($50 / patient in 2015, and $75 / patient in 2016-2018).

She's an MD that specializes in family medicine - super convenient for all of us to see the same doctor. She does home visits the first 2 months of newborn/postpartum care (no additional charge). She is on-call 24/7 via pager, and has an online messaging system she uses on holidays. It truly feels like personalized care. She's the only doctor in the practice, but shares her space with her medical assistant, chiropractor, energy healer (Portland, duh!), a family therapy worker, and an acupuncturist. It's like a 1-stop shop.

I was surprised (as I've never heard of this model before), but I see the value in working with her, so we've decided we'll stay and pay the membership fee.

Would you pay a membership fee for your doctor? Just curious what services you'd expect if you had to pay just to be a patient.
