I would switch now since it seems like she's a big girl and she would be comfier in the convertible. We switched around that time, once we stopped carrying the bucket inside once we got home.

I would switch in advance of the trip. If she doesn't like it you can switch back before the long trip anyway.

@Mrs.KMM: We did exactly this when my DD was 5 months. She was about the same size as your LO at six months too. We switched because she hated the bucket so much, she loved being able to sit "up", see out the window and I think ultimatly the infant bucket bothered her reflux.

We did a 7 hour trip each way to visit some family and she did way better than expected.

DS hated the infant seat and we planned at road trip at about 5 months, we figured there was no harm in giving the convertible seat a try and it definitely helped a lot.

My guy has always been in the 95th+ percentiles all his life, and we switched him to a convertible around 5.5 months. He was technically still in the weight and height range for the bucket, but the real pro of the bucket was being able to take it on and out quickly but he was really too heavy for it to be a benefit anymore. He was way happier in the convertible....way more room to stretch!
