Happy First Birthday to the August babies!

C had his first birthday this weekend. We did a 10:30 am party at our house with about 40 people (20 adults/20kids). It was a lot to handle!

Our menu was:
Ham and Cheese on Hawaiian Rolls (really easy and they were gone!)
PBJ Bears for kids
Chicken Salad w/ rolls and crackers

Fruit platter
Watermelon bowl
Veggie Tray

Teddy Graham crackers
Rice Krispies treat bears
Bear sugar cookies (from bakery)
Cupcakes

Juice boxes, water, tea, lemonade.

birth weight/height: 7 lbs 4 oz and 20 inches long
current weight/height: 23-24 lbs, height at 9 month appt was 28.3 inches
clothing size: 12 month
diaper size: 3-4
tell me about sleep! He sleeps through the night for the most part. Sometimes we hear him talking to himself but he goes back to sleep. We shoot for 2 naps at home but sometimes he will only go down for 1. Naps at daycare are definitely shorter and less often. The daycare just told me to try to get rid of his 9:30 morning nap. We'll see how that goes.
favorite food? blueberries, yogurt, and shredded chicken least favorite? peas
any struggles with feeding? he only became interested in finger foods in the past 2 weeks or so. I am going to try and see if his allergic to peanuts in the next week or 2 - kind of dreading doing that but we need to see what happens.
latest milestone achieved:comfortably eating finger foods; he tried to crawl up the stairs once a few weeks ago
favorite activity: crawling, pulling himself up, dropping books on the floor and playing with them
what milestones are you looking forward to? talking and walking and weaning from BM - the goal with pumping is to make it to a year. I am ready to part ways with the pump even though it is bittersweet.
do you have any general issues/struggles lately? not really - he is not a fan of changing into his pjs at night but it's not too bad.
lastly - does anyone else actually MISS the newborn days? at times -we got to watch him more closely to make sure he does not get into any trouble. We use his first bath tub (provided by the hospital) to wash his bottles so we reminisce about the early days of bathing him often - crazy to think he fit into that little tub!

Man, I must say, it's comforting that so many other August 14 mamas have babies that still sleep inconsistently. Solidarity in sleeplessness, ladies!

birth weight/height: 7lbs 5oz, 21"

current weight/height: 20lbs 12oz, 29" at his 9 month appt; I'd wager he's about 23 pounds and has grown an inch or so. We're going to have a 'guess Will's weight' at his 1 year bday party so I can't wait to see what others guess!

clothing size: solidly in 12 month stuff, but the onesies are getting a bit tight. He's all torso, so if he didn't have such a big belly( :silly: ), he could probably still wear 9 month pants!

diaper size: disposable: 4s; cloth: we've got his snaps all the way undone down the front (though I bet we don't really need that yet), and he shows four snaps in the middle

tell me about sleep! Oh sleep! Naps are ok (though I just did one that was a bit of a struggle!) - he's on a two nap schedule of 60-90 mins each, AM and PM. Goes to bed around 7:15 and wakes 1-2 times a night, and wakes up between 6:30-7:30 each morning.

favorite food? least favorite? any struggles with feeding? He finally eats solid food like a champ. He ADORES blueberries, black beans, beef and tomatoes. Chicken is a struggle, and he doesn't enjoy any pasta or egg. His milk intake has dropped dramatically - what used to be 30-35 ounces of BM each day is now 15-25 oz. It works because I pump only about 30 each day, and just dropped to three pumps, which hopefully will continue to yield what he needs. The less in take means I am actually getting a small freezer stash again - so there may be a baby-free weekend in our future!

latest milestone achieved: He's 'walking!' He chooses to stand and walk to places about 25% of the time, and is still quite wobbly, but it's nuts and awesome all at once. He also learned how to kiss a few weeks ago and it might be my favorite milestone ever.

favorite activity: Recently, he likes to 'read' to himself. He'll pick up a book, flip the pages and talk to himself. He loves eating, and generally crawling around, watching us open cabinets, etc, and trying to replicate anything we do. He's actually pretty good at self-directed play, so we get a few minutes sans-baby each day to make dinner/wash bottles/etc.

what milestones are you looking forward to? I am excited to hear his first real word. He kind of says 'dog', 'done' and 'mama' but inconsistently enough I don't really count it.

do you have any general issues/struggles lately? I sure do wish he would sleep through the night - sleep deprivation is real and sucks so hard. He's also starting to semi-tantrum and he's learned to feed the dog from his high chair which drives me nuts.

lastly - does anyone else actually MISS the newborn days? Yep. They were crazy hard but magical too. And I cried everyday for like three weeks, so I don't have a really rosy picture of them - I just think I'll appreciate them more the second time around, whenever that happens!

birth weight/height and current weight/height: 7lb 8oz, 21 inches when born. My best guess now is 21lbs 31inches, but he'll have his 1 yr check up soon

clothing size: 12 month carters fits well

diaper size: 4

tell me about sleep: *knock on wood* great night sleeper and great napper. Still gets 2 naps a day at home, just 1 at daycare

favorite food? least favorite? any struggles with feeding?
Favorite: yogurt and tiny fruit fruit snacks.
Least favorite: chicken, kid looks at it like it will murder him.
He did great with puree, but table food has been a struggle. We've seen great improvements in the last week though *fx* it continues

latest milestone achieved: not sure these count as milestones but this week he has learned how to properly get off a bed/couch feet first and has started self feeding with a spoon

favorite activity: music time, hide and seek/peek a boo, and tower destruction

what milestones are you looking forward to? standing independently

do you have any general issues/struggles lately? clinginess, especially after a day at daycare. My evenings are rough because if I get more than 6 inches away its too much.

lastly - does anyone else actually MISS the newborn days? I do! Baby fever is not my friend!!

birth weight/height and current weight/height:6lb 6oz 19in; now about 21.5lb, not sure about height, i'd guess 28.5 in

clothing size:12-18mo!

diaper size:4

tell me about sleep! great night sleeper (7:30-7am), naps are pretty good, usually 9-11am, 2-4pm at home. daycare naps are iffy. maybe 1 hr at most around noon!

favorite food? least favorite? any struggles with feeding? fruit, any kind! least fav is veggies, just like mama. :-) he's starting to drop his food on the floor alot. we have dogs so i think he thinks its a game as well. so we take him down when he starts doing that. but then i'm always worried he didn't eat enough. :-/

latest milestone achieved: i think he says mama and more! and signing more as well! and he just started regular crawling (was army crawling since 7 months but finally got his tummy off the ground). i don't see him walking for a couple months at least.

favorite activity: listening and dancing to music! whenever his daddy plays guitar he crawls as fast as he can over there and bobs his head as he crawls!

what milestones are you looking forward to? walking!!! this guy is getting heavy and squirmy. :-/

do you have any general issues/struggles lately? nothing really.. hes starting to get stranger anxiety and always wants mama. its not too bad but hopefully it doesn't get worse! he's also getting hard at restaurants and out.we have to make sure he's been fed and that hes not tired or else meltdown!

lastly - does anyone else actually MISS the newborn days? how tiny they are! the newborn snuggles! how easy it is to take them anywhere and everywhere.

birth weight/height and current weight/height: 8lbs 5oz & 21 inches // at his 9 month appointment, 20lbs 1oz & 28.5 inches

clothing size: mostly 12-18m

diaper size: size 3 honest, size 4 pampers overnight

tell me about sleep! I hate to jinx it, but he tends to go to bed between 6:30-7pm and wake up between 5:30-6:30am. he goes down awake for bedtime & all naps which is amazing! naps can be a little hit or miss in terms of length, but overall pretty good. thank goodness for Dr. Ferber!

favorite food? least favorite? any struggles with feeding? favorite - blueberries, cheese, banana pancakes. not a fan of watermelon or peaches, but more for us!

latest milestone achieved: our nanny just texted me to say he crawled up some stairs this morning.

favorite activity: playing with/throwing balls, "reading" books (aka handing us a book and then insisting on turning the pages), the water table. and waving!

what milestones are you looking forward to? walking and talking more!

do you have any general issues/struggles lately? he's a bit whiny as he's cutting some top teeth. I can't even imagine how annoying the whining will continue to get!

lastly - does anyone else actually MISS the newborn days? yes and no. I miss the snuggles and how tiny he is, but I love the things he can do now - like wave bye bye when I leave the house or play with my ponytail while I nurse him before bed

favorite food? least favorite? any struggles with feeding? He loves banana pancakes and chicken apple sausage. He hates avocado and cheese (both of which I've considered disowning him over).

Hi all! I haven't been here in a while and now that I've been frequenting the boards more, I've been wondering about how the August 2014 babies have been doing! We have a facebook group but I know not everyone is a member so I'll lead with some questions. Hope some of you are still around!

birth weight/height and current weight/height:
clothing size:
diaper size:
tell me about sleep!
favorite food? least favorite? any struggles with feeding?
latest milestone achieved:
favorite activity:
what milestones are you looking forward to?
do you have any general issues/struggles lately?
lastly - does anyone else actually MISS the newborn days? I was looking at my old posts, and I had such a tough time when Jack was a newborn but I seriously, seriously miss it!!!

@regberadaisy: What are the standard nap times? I feel like age 1 is so tough being in between 1 and 2 naps! Also, I only have a few babies coming, mostly older kids after that.

@T.H.O.U.: 3 or 330 and we'll be serving burgers and dogs.

For a 1 year old I would prefer 1030a because then I can get her home for her nap. And it's easier for lunch to be missed then give a light snack when they wake. Versus having to rush home after a party to make dinner. A 2pm party would mean we wouldn't show up till 3 or later because that's smack in the middle of nap time for most 1 year olds.

What time are you guys doing the party? I dont know that we can afford to serve a full meal, so I think my options are limited to either 10 am or 2pm. I'm leaning towards the morning since the afternoon will be really hot!

@autumnleaves: DD1 dived headfirst into her smash cake! It was hilarious. Planning on baking DD2's smash cake. im pretty anal about how much sweets my kids are exposed to. And I want to bake all their birthday cakes. I've baked all of DD1's birthday cakes. :)
But I'm waffling between making cupcakes for the guests or getting a sheet cake from Wegmans.

Just decided to invite our two neighbors and their kids. DD1 plays over in our next door neighbor's backyard every weekend! Now we're at 42 guests - gulp.

We'll probably do something low key at our house. I'd like a cute theme, just haven't thought of anything yet. Need to get planning!!

@autumnleaves: definitely making a smash cake. I've been looking forward to it since he started solids :)

I am looking forward to seeing LO's reaction to the smash cake. He is only eating purees now but I have a feeling he'll be ready to get his hands into some frosting and cake at his birthday. Are y'all planning on buying or making a cake?

@jape14: do both!

I'm trying to keep costs down so I'm looking for minimum recommendations for a successful party -

Food
Basic drinks (water tea and a juice punch)
Solid color paper goods
Table cloth in coordinating color
One other color decoration
One banner
Small activity for kids (craft and then set out toys)

It's so hard with Pinterest to not do all the back drops and over the top themes.

Well DS was born in the beginning of September, but I still consider myself an August 2014 mom from our due date board! Anyway, we're not 100% sure what we're doing yet - we live about 8 hours away from both sets of families (who live in the same area), so I'm trying to decide where we should have the party. We could have it at our house, but everyone would have to travel to us so it'd end up being just immediate family, possibly my grandmother, and a few local friends. Or we could travel to our (mutual) hometown and have a larger crowd. Not sure which would be better but we need to make a decision soon!!

@regberadaisy: I'm thinking around 3:30-4 as well. I will probably just have the food catered from some local restaurant. And a quick head count, there could be around 20 adults + kids.

Cannot believe it's time to plan a 1st bday already!
