We have the same one as @catgirl: and love it. We don't have the wide angle lens, but can see nearly all the room anyway (ok it's a tiny room, but still!).

We have, and love, the infant optics dxr-8. It comes with different lenses, including a wide angle one that would let you see the whole room at once.

So, we are finally moving DD (3) to a toddler bed.

We need a new video monitor that can see the whole room.
I'd prefer not to have it connected to wifi, but I can't seem to find anything that works without it.

Recommendations?

Thanks everyone! My husband thinks we should just stop using the monitor at night anyway since we can hear her if we leave our door open. I like the idea of WiFi to check in during the day but my nanny and inlaws wouldn’t be able to figure it out! Ha. I’ll look into infant optics or will just give it up. Thanks all!

Another vote for the infant optics dxr8, we LOVE ours, it’s going strong after 3 years of constant use. Got one for a baby gift for my SIL because she hated her old Motorola and she loves it too.

We have nest for our home security and thermostats and I like it, but much prefer the old-school monitor for the nurseries for all the reasons @SweetiePie: listed. It never occurred to me you could tag team both though!

I have the infant optics also and have no complaints about it. I got it for like $80 from Amazon warehouse deal. It was marked as good condition and looked like new to me, not a scratch and the screen cover was still on it. No issues with the battery either. I'd definitely recommend going that route over the brand new price.

We used to have a Foscam IP camera that we used with our ipad and that worked well for many many years but then it ended up having connectivity issues that I was super over having to deal with once LO2 arrived last year.
Basically the IP address would reset whenever the camera was unplugged or if there was a power surge (we are in FL so that actually happens a lot). Then it started losing the IP address just for no reason and you'd have to go into the room to unplug/re-plug the camera which is NOT ideal with a colicky crappy sleeping newborn.

We ended up replacing the Foscam with a Motorola.
https://www.target.com/p/motorola-comfort75-5--34--video-baby-monitor/-/A-75573979

I like that it's not dependent on WiFi and the range is decent enough for our house and yard that I can take it outside with older LO to play or do garden things. It does have some annoying connectivity issues between the nursery and the living room but it's not that often and always resets itself without me actually having to do anything or enter the nursery with the baby is asleep.

We use our wyze cams now that the kids are 1+ because that’s when I stop using the baby monitor overnight. I stop around 9 months and I can hear them very well and am a light sleeper anyway. I just check in on them through the night periodically. The battery life on our phones/iPad is also way better than our Motorola baby monitor so that’s a big plus if we did want to use it all night. On the rare occasions we have a babysitter we just set it up on the iPad and our Motorola cam has a wifi app you can use so we use that now because of the crappy battery life on the parent unit. The cost factor is also insane. Our baby monitor was $250 ish and the wyze cams were $30 each.

We've been happy with Motorola. Oldest is 4.5 and still going! Tho DH has to rig the wires a little bit b/c our 2nd threw/dropped it so much some of the wiring got loose; but not the monitor's fault.

We also did not want any of the wifi ones with apps.

Pretty much what @SweetiePie: said. We started with a motorola, and it was fine. We liked it well enough that when the first one died one week after it's warranty ended, we bought another. Again it met our needs and was fine. But when we moved last summer the range didn't worked from DD's room to ours. There were too many walls in the way. So we got the infant optics dxr-8 and LOVE it. The picture is so much better. The sound quality is better. I am so wishing we had it to start.

We considered a wifi camera since we have amazing wifi (thanks to a mesh network). But didn't like that we would have to leave one of our phones on all night. And we need the monitor, we cannot hear DD at all from our room. And we were concerned about when someone would babysit - would we have to leave one of our phones? Or download the app on theirs? Just didn't make sense for us.

I'm a huge fan of nest cam. I can check k it from my phone wherever & don't have to worry about range. Also we pay the nominal monthly fee so that I can record snippets of their bedtime/naptime antics.....which are hilarious

We have the Infant Optics DXR-8 and looooove it. We went through 3 crappy Motorola ones and finally got this after BIL got it and said they loved it.
We’ve had 1 for about 2 years now (both use the same parent unit) and 1 for a year. Both work just like day 1 and zero complaints.
We also have a Nest cam for both kids. We like that if we’re away or just out for the night we can creep on them and see how they’re sleeping. And if I leave the video monitor in my room I can sit in the living room and just occasionally check the Nest on my phone.

Personally I wouldn’t use a WiFi cam as my only monitor. 1) you kinda have to use an old phone or an iPad or something if you want constant monitoring during the day. And overnight I just don’t love having my phone on all night. The screen up I mean. 2) if your WiFi goes out even for a second it goes out and you have to sort of refresh it. Overnight that sucks because you don’t know it went out till the AM when you wake up and then you don’t know if the baby needed you while the monitor was down.
3) same issue if you have a sitter - you have to leave an iPad or old phon or something for them to use as the monitor screen. Or give them your password for their phone but then they can creep on you any time (like I know my MIL would, haha).

So we like having both.

Ideally would be pretty long range so we can use in backyard and when we travel. Or-is there something I can do about the static? Thank you!!!

@trixi: Please do report back if you are able to contact Motorola - we're having a similar issue with our parent unit, the plug needs to be at just the right angle to connect.

Our solution probably won't work for your situation, as our two share a room, but we use the Motorola with two cameras, and manually flip between our son (5.5) and daughter (15 months), usually keeping it on our daughter. The nice thing about sharing a room, though, is that we can still hear our son when the monitor is on our daughter's camera.

@ChiCalGoBee @Littlebit7 I did consider splurging for the nest cams, but also thought then we'd have to download the app on an additional tablet to leave with a babysitter etc. But, I think we'd be able to do that.

Does the app run all night on your phones? Can you use other apps while it runs? Do you have to pay for a subscription to their app?

@trixi: just to offer a dissenting opinion: we got a dual camera video monitor 3 years ago when we moved and were expecting baby #2. We have used it pretty much every night for the past 3 years and I am happy with it. We have it on the switching between two cameras all night as my older child sleeps on a different floor from us. I had the same worry about the noise difference but I have been able to solve it by putting both cameras very near both fans so the sounds are basically the same. I sleep through the switching all night without a problem. I don’t remember the model but we basically just keep it plugged in next to the bed so we haven’t had issues.

I'll echo @Littlebit7: with the Nestcam option. While we're still waiting for #2 to actually get here, I've known friends who have used them for two kids and said it's been great. I can't tell you how helpful it's been when we've left our son with a family member or sitter and he's having a hard time settling. I can pull up his came on my phone and give advice very easily since the camera is accessible to me anywhere I have WiFi or 3G. We got the newer version for our daughter and I'm looking forward to testing it out to see the improvements they've made!

For what it’s worth we have issues with our summer infant plug as well. They won’t do anything because it’s out of warranty. But as long as i wrap the cord under the stand it will charge appropriately so it’s a non issue now that i know how to deal with it. We’ve had this monitor for 3.5 years without issue. And i believe we replaced the battery once.

@Emmalina @gotkimchi @SweetiePie
I cant believe so many people have the same problem with their Motorola. I am not looking forward to contacting them tomorrow, but I'll see what they say. Will also check into the InfantOptix reviews...

@trixie same problem with motorola but just returned to Amazon (a year down the line)

We tried 5 different monitors before returning to motorola and going with two separate (nannyshare) - it's much easier than the scrolling

@trixi: for what it’s worth I found Motorola customer service abhorrent, and those micro USB ports break so easy on everything.

We have a Motorola that scans between camera but I never use it because the screen won’t go black. What I want is a monitor that goes between rooms but only turns on if there is noise. Also in split screen mode there is no sound from either room so we ended up with 2 monitors
