I’m pretty sure this is a unicorn but figured I’d ask ...

Our youngest will be 3 in August and (I think) weighs 30-some pounds. She still wants to be carried a lot and isn’t always content to sit in the stroller. But we live in Texas and it’s summer so I can’t handle a carrier where she’s plastered right on me in a back or front carry. We tried a cheaper hiking backpack carrier but it was too heavy to be doable very long and also she didn’t like it - I think it was a bit small for her.

Are expensive hiking carriers worth it or still too heavy with a kid this age? Would it be helpful to get one of those hip pads where it takes some of the weight but they’re not strapped in? Other ideas?? Thank you!

My youngest is 22 months tomorrow and we're definitely not having more, and especially being home with so much stuff in a small house I've been in the mode to sell everything we don't need.

Try to decide if the lillebaby is worth keeping. I originally got it for flying which was great, but the earliest we'll do that again is Christmas (if then) when she'll be over two. I might have used it more this summer if we did indoor stuff like museums, but we're mostly close to home now and she won't stay in it for walks (plus it's already in the 90s here and getting worse).

any thoughts on whether I will regret selling it? I just can't think when I will really use it since we're not going anywhere for a long long time . . .

I have the lillebaby complete 360 if that matters. Thanks!

I have a baby who loves to be worn in a boba wrap. Going back to work soon and i don't think our nanny is game to learn how to wrap it. Is there a simpler wrap - something between a moby/boba and an ergo type? Something that holds a baby similarly to the wraps?

someone posted a lillebaby all seasons complete on my local mom page - I may not get that one but it got me thinking. My nearly 14 month old weighs about 23 lb and is average height. Last time we traveled in early August I still used our old school (circa 2011) ergo at the airport but I’m kind of over it by this size. I also could have used a carrier just being out today (and many days) because she’s not super keen on being in the stroller long but I need my hands free for the older kids and we’re on the go a lot. Unfortunately it’s still 95 here so cooler is better.

Any thoughts on this carrier or an alternative? Price is a factor since it won’t get a ton of use at this age (but I will resell if I can). Thanks!

ETA she’s close but not walking yet ... can’t decide how much that will affect my carrier needs. But probably I can still use it since she gets dragged around so much. I’m not really an older toddler carrier person though, at least so far.

I have been using the ergo baby carrier since 2012 with my oldest child. Yesterday while putting my 6 month old into it (back carry) he squirmed and threw his weight backwards while one leg was already restrained. Despite my best efforts to prevent him falling by holding on to the leg and also reaching behind me to support his weight he landed on the bed behind me and broke his thigh bone! Its has been a very stressful 24 hours including full skeletal xrays, multiple attempts at IV lines and being evaluated for possible abuse and neglect. He is now home and is wearing a hip dysplasia brace for the next few weeks. Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else uses the ergo for back carry. I fully believe it takes two people to safely use it for back carry. DH has always complained about how hard it is to get on but I have never had an issue til yesterday.

Anyone used a carrier for bigger infants/toddlers that they loved?

Background: we commute via subway and walking. Stroller is not an option due to elevator outages and crowds. I have a large osprey daypack on my back with bottles/daycare food/pump stuff/my lunch/laptop/etc that weighs like a brick, and then there is my 25 + pound 9 month old. I'm using the lillebaby with him facing in on the front (facing out nearly broke my back), but am just wondering if this is as good as it's going to get (ouch my shoulders) or if there's anything else that's good for carrying a heavy kid. I don't even want to think how big he's going to be before he doesn't need to be carried anymore. Thank you!

If you had to pick one....I have a Lilliebaby that I am very excited to use for outdoors and once DD is bigger (she's still cooking :silly: ), but I would love something that I could just wear around the house and for early days. I am NOT a wrapping kind of mama, so I would prefer a ring sling or K'tan. Which would you recommend?

I've worn two other babies from newborn through toddler aged, but seem to have lost all memory of WTF I'm supposed to do with a newborn. Even though it was only two years ago that I had one.

My slowly disintegrating mind aside, I just got a lillebaby complete and am trying to figure out if I should do legs in or out with a newborn? Legs in requires a rolled blanket, which is fine, but its another step (see aforementioned disintegrating mind). Does it matter from a safety/development perspective, or is it straight up personal preference?

I will probably mostly use the ring sling in the very early weeks, but i like to use a soft structured carrier if I know I"m going to be wearing for longer periods of time. We used a Boba 3G with both previous babies, which was a leg in situation for newborn days.

Does anyone have this and would or would not recommend it (or any carrier at all)? I was originally thinking old school mei tai like the ones my mom used to sew up and use for us, but maybe something more modern/ergonomic would be better? They seem to be about 80-90 on amazon right now, does anyone know if that's a prime day deal or regular amazon price? I think I'm eye the breathable mesh one over the all season cause I just don't feel like the warmth is going to really be needed for when I might use it. Any advice is welcome! TIA!

For those of you who wore your newborn a lot out and about in the summer, how do you protect them from the sun without overheating them? We are doing a lot outside right now with O to keep us all sane, and baby (4 weeks) is coming along. I've been using the ergo when it's warm because it seems cooler than a wrap, but then her legs and arms are exposed even with the sun shade over her head. Is there an easy way to protect her from the sun without baking her (and me?)

I'm having twins in a couple weeks and plan to baby wear a lot to prevent having to carry two car seats around. I'll probably pop one in a carrier and carry the other car seat. Because of this, I bought a shoulder strap diaper bag but when it arrived i realized it is HUGE. That may come in handy sometimes, but it is sooooo huge I don't think i'll want to carry it around every day.

So i'm thinking of getting a diaper bag backpack as well. Is it too hard to wear a backpack while baby wearing? I play to do a wrap carrier when they're little and a structured carrier as they get a little bigger. Is that too many straps / too in the way to have a backpack?

I’ve been borrowing a regular Ergo carrier the past year and loved it, but needed to return it to its owner. I’d like to buy one for myself, but can’t decide which kind. It’s for an 11 month old. Standard, 360, or mesh? Which do you have and like, and why?

Edited to add, has anyone used the Ergo Adapt? I like that it doesn’t need a separate infant insert (if we have another child).

This is a super specific question, but thought I'd try anyway! We have both an infant and toddler tula, and lo2 is riiiight in between the sizes I think, and I'm not sure which is better to use! We're about to travel for a weeklong vacation and will be using it on transatlantic flights and then on and off while sightseeing (we're bringing a stroller too, but she'll be sharing it with lo1)

I feel like she's slightly too big/tall for the baby carrier--she pops her arms out of the top and tries to climb out, though she can nap in it well...

But the toddler one still seems like it's a bit big/will swallow her up...but maybe that's okay?? She's just below the cusp on the minimum height/weight

This is my 3rd. We have the old ergo and the infant insert. Ergo was used for both my kids a lot when they were bigger. The actual infant insert, not so much. It always felt awkward to me. I’ll probably still use the ergo once she is big enough.

For this one, I’m looking for infant carrier with the following :

1. Not complicated or hard to use. I’m terrible at anything that has to wrap several times or having certain ties, etc.
I will have a very active two year old boy to chase after so I would have to put it on myself and it shouldn’t take more than couple of minutes.

2. I have a bad back so it has to be back friendly.
3. I’m short but big. So it can’t look like I’m swimming in it.

I’m intrigued by Nesting Days bc it looks so easy to put on. Anyone that was similar to me would like to share?

Hi all!

We're taking our first camping trip with M this weekend! My mom just brought up getting a backpack carrier for walks at the campsite.

When can we start using a backpack style carrier for M? She's currently 11 months (on Friday!!), sits independently, pulls up and stands with help. She's about 20 lbs and 29 ish inches. We have a tula, but she's getting pretty heavy and I wouldn't trust my balance with her on uneven ground (especially since I can't really see my feet with her in the Tula).

If she is old enough for one, can anyone recommend a good one?

So I'm 36 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and need to make a decision about how to wear this baby. With my son, I was given 2 structured carriers, but I didn't use them until 2-3 months because he was too small. Someone gave as their old ergo and I loved it, but we don't have a newborn insert.

This time around, I want something I can use from day one since I know it will be even nicer to have my hands free with a toddler around. I've been thinking of getting a wrap. A friend of mine suggested the Solly Baby, someone else likes the moby, etc... I have no idea. Anyone with experience with wraps who wants to recommend one? Should I do something else? Thanks

Hi everyone! I have a 21 month with another due in 4 weeks. I have a feeling I will be doing quite a bit of baby wearing at first and am looking for a new carrrier. I already have the ergobaby but it's so bulky for day to day wearing. Any recommendations for a carrier that isn't so bulky and easy to get on?

I love wearing my baby, but she is almost 25 lbs at 5 months old and she is quickly approaching the weight limit of the Baby Bjorn. I have been looking into carriers with a higher weight limit and I am loving the look of the Tula and the fact that I can wear her up to 60 lbs in the toddler size. My husband looked at me like I was insane when I mentioned that they are $170. I feel like it would be totally worth it to buy a carrier that will grow with our enormous child! Votes for the Tula? Any other carriers you prefer for huge kids?

Wondering if I'm doing this right? I have a baby Bjorn all in one and my low back hurts so much with this! I actually prefer my original bjorn but the one is supposed to be better because it has a piece that goes around your hips. But now I think maybe I'm doing it wrong?

I am due with #2 this June and would like to try to babywear a lot with this baby. I had a ktan with my DS but it was a little tight and would definitely be too small now. I also didn't love it so I'm not interested in replacing it. I also have an Ergo, but will be selling it for something with better lumbar support. I like the idea of a ring sling for early on and have been looking at options.

I was looking at the Sakura Bloom after seeing lots of recommendations for it, but while looking I stumbled across a Beco ring sling for half the price ($55). I've found some reviews and a lot of people really it, especially for the price point, but several people mentioned that they disliked the weight and feel of the fabric. I'm worried it could be too hot for summer and about the possibility of skin rashes if the fabric is too rough. Has anyone here tried it? Any comments?

With my first DD, I used the Moby right off the bat. Honestly I hated it, the fabric would stretch out right away, and get loose and she would slide down. plus it took me and DH to wrap it.

Then I quickly moved to using the Ergo with a towel rolled under her butt. I still use the Ergo with her to this day and she's 19 months.

Now that I'm pregnant with LO2, I've started thinking about trying a ring sling for the early newborn days before going to the Ergo. Thoughts?? I'm just a little shell shocked at the price to be honest!

I feel like it's super common, but I never wore either of my kids. It was something that never felt super comfy to me, so I just didn't do it. Was I maybe missing out?

DH did a bit, but not a ton since he isn't with the kids as much.

I saw a mom at the park the other day wearing the GORGEOUS Solly Baby Wrap that is a collaboration with Rifle Paper Co. and absolutely fell in love with it based solely on aesthetics. After she let me touch it and told me a bit more about it, I think it could be an awesome option for wearing DD3, who is expected to be very small (so we won't be using the Ergo or Bjorn for quite awhile) - I'm hoping to wear her a lot so I can resume normal activities with my older girls sooner.

My issue is... I had a Moby for DD2 - she and I both hated it (way too heavy, not stretchy, and just WAY too much fabric for this 5'4", 115 lb mama. I felt like I could make an evening gown out of the thing). I have also purchased a K'Tan, but of course haven't had the chance to try it out with a real baby.

For anyone who has a Solly wrap - do you love it? And if you do, do you just love unstructured carriers in general, or is this one really special because of it's stretchiness, light weight, shorter length, etc.?

Also - do they ever go on sale?! :)
