Hello!

We are moving twice in 6 months and have baby #3 coming. Trying to see when it will be best to transition 3.5/4 year old to his new twin bed??? Before the move to the apartment or once we get to the apartment? New baby coming in August and he is currently in the crib. what’s best and would be easier for LO? I was thinking to set it up here and have movers move it to apartment and he’s already slept in it or just have it set up day one in Apartment? We are moving again but I think he will be okay because he would have slept in the twin bed... opinions/experiences/advice? Thank you!

LO is 21 months old and we have baby #2 due in august.

We are trying to figure out a timeline for moving LO out of the crib. I'm thinking it would be better to move him before the baby is here, so he doesn't feel like the baby is taking his bed? Or is that silly to worry about?

We were thinking we could move the crib in our room and just use the crib from the get go with the new baby instead of a bassinet.

We were thinking of transitioning him to a bed shortly after his birthday in April. Is 2 years old too young though?

Does anyone have a bunk bed that you love?

We’re in a pickle! We just got a bunk bed for our girls about a month ago and it’s already broken  the guardrail came off and lo2 fell off the bed with it, we’re lucky she didn’t break her arm or worse!! (Note: avoid the crate & barrel wrightwood bed— the guardrail only attached at the bottom with 4 small screws...) my kids aren’t even THAT rambunctious, this never should have broken so easily

It is SO hard to pick out a sturdy bed online so id love any recs!

I'm shopping for new beds and wondering if getting under bed storage drawers are worth it...seems like an excellent place to keep sheets. We've always kept them in dresser drawers but seems like such a waste of space!

I'm getting ready to order sheets (6 sets/3 per child)... I don't have high end taste......but just want to see if anyone has liked pillowfort sheets from target? I like the $20 price point (versus PBK where $20 gets you one pillow case :( )

We moved a few weeks ago and while my almost 5yos room is a great size, it’s smaller than his last (which was ridiculously oversized) and he has less room to play (which we like once in a while if he wants to build structures that the 17mo will destroy). We are thinking of getting him a bunk bed - the kind that doesn’t have a bed underneath, it’s instead a desk, bookshelf, etc. and added floor space to play - and some day we could put another twin bed if we wanted to.

Anyone get a bunk bed and seriously regret it? I’m not too worried about his safety. More like making the bed...will my 1.5yo always want to go up too...he never pees at night but if he does will be forget and fall out? 😆

He also currently has a full sized bed, but he has slept in a twin numerous times at my parents and my in-laws and he’s never fallen out.

Mostly it’s making the bed, though. Seems way harder for me and then it’s not a chore he can help me with anymore.

Anyone seriously regret this purchase?

So my DS is 2.5 and he's a terrible nighttime sleeper. He wakes up 1-2 times a night and sometimes ends up in bed with us because I am too tired to sit and rock him (and ultimately end up sleeping sitting up in the glider!) so I just bring him into bed with us.

We have always planned to move him into a queen bed after the crib and I'm wondering if we should just do it now.

That would enable me to change the whole bedtime routine.. no more rocking in the glider and reading books, we could do that in bed and I could snuggle and get him all comfy and then for his night wake ups I could just keep him in his bed and lay with him/sleep in a bed with him instead of sitting in a chair....

IDK... maybe it's a bad idea but at this point I think I'm ready to try something different!!

ETA: and oh, I am just wishfully HOPING that maybe the change will make him STTN....

Does anyone happen to have this or another Stork Craft bunk bed? I'm wondering about the quality. The price is super low and the reviews are good, but people usually review right after they assemble and not like 5 years down the road. We were planning on getting a twin bed for DD2 that matches the one we have for DD1, and there's only about a $50 price difference. They share a room so it would be really nice to save on space, but most other bunk beds are a bit more spendy.

Background: I have been bed-sharing with my DD basically since she was born 3 years ago. We currently sleep in the “guest room” on a queen size bed. One side is against the wall and there is a rail on the other side, so I have started leaving her alone there overnight, although most nights she calls for me around 4-5 am. She also naps there alone during the day.

In preparation for baby #2’s arrival in November, we have decided that we want to turn the guest room into our DD’s official “room”, and get a more suitable bed for her (the current bed frame is metal and has several parts that stick out and are rather sharp, so it’s not ideal for a child’s room. It’s also very high off the ground, although DD can climb in and out herself).

Our inclination right now is to get the MALM queen size frame from IKEA so we can keep the same mattress (it’s relatively new, and our DD is used to sleeping on it). My question is whether a queen size bed is ultimately too big/unnecessary for a toddler/preschooler/child, and whether we should be looking at a twin/single instead. The room is large enough to fit the queen size bed along with other furniture (dresser, bookshelf, perhaps a reading chair), but wondering if anyone foresees any potential issues (either now or in the future) with having a queen size bed in a 3 year old’s room?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

So #parentingfail tonight for sure. This morning we pulled the toddler conversion kit out of the attic that we bought when we got DD's PBK crib 2.5 years ago. She hadn't yet jumped out of the crib, but she's been throwing a leg over the side and threatening to do so.

Conversion kit didn't even last one night. What in the world do I need to do to get her to stay in it? We just now went to sleep (in the old crib configuration) 3 hours past bedtime after trying solutions for locks on the door, extra blankets, you name it. She just wanted to go in and out of it constantly, run around her room and do anything but sleep. It doesn't help that she can open the door to her bedroom (100 year old house with shitty locks/handles) and roam free in the house.

I was thinking I'd get a baby gate for the door to her room so that even if she opens the door, she can't escape... but I'm not sure that would encourage sleep but rather just discourage free-range toddler.

Help! What works? Or do I just give it more time and run the risk of a crib catapult?

My newborn (almost 2 weeks old) typically only falls asleep at breast or when carried around. Whenever she is put down at all, she wakes up within a couple minutes and won't go back to sleep/acts hungry. Atleast this is how it's been on and off. I don't exactly know what it means, if that's just her pattern ATM, or how to help her sleep! I am staying away from pacifiers for now (though I have them!!) and getting her established at breast. Maybe this is why I did not experience this restlessness with my first two babies, my 1st was on formula & always had a paci...and my 2nd breastfed but he "found" his fingers within first days of life. Idk. Any advice/encouragement will help tremendously.

I assume the sucking at breast & being held is her need of comfort...but how do I get her to stay down? I can't get anything done--and there's so much to keep up with with two loud and crazy monkeys running around/fighting all the time! Not to mention hardly sleeping

Hi :)

Just wrote a post about my 6 month old, but figure while I am here I would ask for some help for my three year old too.

He was an AMAZING sleeper until about 2 months ago. Slept 7-7am, and then after the summer and some travel, he started to have nightmares at night (maybe also an age thing?). Then that turned into him screaming at night because he figured out he could get things, so we did a sticker chart and he started sleeping great again. We then switched him out of crib into a big bed (twin) because he's very tall, and he slept great for about a month.

Now he has been getting out of bed and running into us at night, either because he heard something scary or he had a bad dream. Then we walk him back to bed and he comes back two minutes later. We have tried to use the sticker chart as incentive, and every day he promises he'll stay in, but every night he comes back in at one point or another and it all starts again. Last night he came in with a nightmare and my husband could get him to fall asleep quickly but then he came in at 5am for no reason.

He is EXHAUSTED from his day at preschool at 6:30pm and in bed by 7pm so we can't put him to bed later, and I don't think that is the issue.

We have one of those clocks that shows him to wait until the lamb wakes up - which worked for a while, but not anymore. And then we have a little light on since he is now scared of the dark. And we do white noise.

We have a 6 month old in our room and I can't have him waking the baby by running in every night. Should we just be consistent and walk him back to his room in silence every night until he gets it? I fear if we started sitting with him in his room until he falls asleep again or even laying down with him, he will want that every night - he is so stubborn.

Thankful for any advice you may have!

As of now, the girls will need to share a room. Deadline is roughly May-June when DD2 is 5-6 months and outgrows her bassinet thing. DD1 will be nearly 4 by then. I dread the thought of this... DD2 doesn’t sleep through the night (she’s 3 months) so between an anticipated sleep regression coming up at some point, middle of the night feeds... How do I make this work without everyone all waking up? When the time comes to sleep train, do I do DD2 in the crib in the room and have DD1 maybe sleep on an air mattress elsewhere or something for that time? Am I overthinking the room sharing? Will DD1 sleep when DD2 wakes and needs to eat? Gah!

Hey it’s me. Still overthinking my 3 year olds bed.

I have a duvet cover I’m thinking about keeping for her twin size bed. But I need a comforter or something to put inside it. It doesn’t have to be super warm since her room is always warmer than her sister’s. But something a little bit fluffy.

Mostly I want something easy to wash and dry and not expensive or super fluffy. The reviews of the cheap ikea ones complain that they are only stitched in rows so the stuffy bunches up too much. And I believe they can’t be dried. I had to wash my older daughters fairly cheap comforter and it handled the washer and dryer (on low) just fine, which was nice.

Thanks for any recommendations. When I finally finish her room I owe you all pictures. 😊

It happened today- my tiny 3 year old climbed into and out of her crib this afternoon. I don’t think she will again overnight but it’s time to make moves to the big bed.

We already have a twin bed in there that I like, but the mattress and box spring on it could be twenty years old, so I’m going to get her new ones.

Where did you buy your LOs mattress? Did you get a matching boxspring? What type of mattress?

I see BJs has a great deal on a twin for $90, but no box spring. Her bed only has three slats to support it so she definitely needs a foundation of some sort. And while it doesn’t seem like a box spring would wear out that fast this one is 20 years old so I can get a new one! She’s tiny now but I want this to last for ten years or so.

Thinking about future furniture for my 3 yo, who is still in the crib for now.

She currently has a twin bed in her room that came with our house when we bought it. I like the head and footboard enough, but it’s kind of tall and has big drawers underneath that are kind of jacked up (previous owners had warned us about that). For now it’s a place to sit and read books before we put her in the crib, it’s creaky, and has an old mattress. I was thinking maybe we can get rid of the jacked up drawers and put a trundle bed underneath for future sleepovers, but the bed is higher than I’d like for a very short 3 year old (literally 2% for height). Are they always tall or just this one?

Tell me about siblings bedsharing!

It's starting to happen in our house and I would love others experiences.

DS1 will be 4 in Feb and DS2 is 2. When a caregiver is putting them to bed they often fall asleep in DS1's bed (twin on the floor) or DS2 will join DS1 in the night. They both tend to sleep through the night when they bedshare. DH and I both work evenings for a week or two at a time a few times a year (they have a lot of evening babysitters sometimes).

When they don't DS2 will end up in our bed a few times a night (we are working on this).

I was about to get a small loft bed for DS1 and DS2 would sleep under it. But I don't want to ruin a good thing!

Does anyone have experience with this?

Anyone have or had one? Was it worth the expense?

Dh has persuaded me into getting one and I'm curious how others felt about them. We currently have a king size bed that I think is fine.

We are getting a king split sleep number

Anyone?

TL:DR - How long did your kid stay in a toddler bed? Or how long could they?

Trying to make DD1's room work for two kids is proving to be tricky. It's a big room but not a ton of empty wall space (windows, closets, etc.). We're thinking of moving her to a toddler bed instead of a twin to buy us some time, with the hopes that when LO2 needs to go from crib to toddler, we'll have the space to move DD1 to a twin. DD1 will be 3 1/2 in December when LO2 arrives.

My son is 4.5 and growing out of his toddler bed, so we’re going to go out tomorrow and buy a bigger one (we’re getting the Ikea Kura, because we’re gluttons for punishment and it seems like an excellent idea to install a four foot high platform in my parkour-baby’s room). Does anybody have experience with Ikea mattresses? They seem reasonably priced but are they comfortable?

I am a two time swaddle drop out due to sheer laziness. I've convinced myself that swaddling has to be the answer to our previous terrible newborn sleep.

So this time I'm going to get a zip-up swaddle.

Which one should I get? I don't want to buy a billion, was thinking maybe the woombie?

Do you particularly recommend your crib mattress? For my boy I paid $300 (FTM suckah much?) for a Naturepedic Organic 2-sided mattress touted by Lucie's List that *quickly* permanently indented on the harder infant side when my baby was around 10 pounds, and then did the same on the other side when I flipped it over a year later. So, not enthusiastic about shelling out again for that brand. If you think yours is great for any reason I'd love to get a product rec--thanks in advance :)
ETA, unless I'm dead wrong and you need to tell me about it, I don't think I care if it's organic or not.

I’m getting our younger daughter a full size bed and am looking into cotton and flannel sheets, as well as a quilt or comforter. Any recommendations?

Where do you normally buy bedding for the kiddos from? I got my older daughters duvet / sheets from LON during an amazing sale, but there aren’t many good deals right now on LON (crate and barrel kids) or PBK now and do not want to spend much on bedding until after she’s potty trained.

I’m looking for a new duvet cover for our guest bedroom. I tend to like more modern designs. In the past I’ve purchased bedding at a lot of different places and price points, like West Elm, Target, IKEA, and The Company Store. I don’t want to spend a ton of money as it’s for a guest room, but I’m coming up short everywhere I look. Where are your favorite places to buy bedding? Even better, can you include pictures of what you have? Thanks!
