LO is 8 months and suddenly it is hurting to feed her or pump. No teeth and I would swear her latch hasn't changed. I've probably been lazy about her latch since she's older but after a few days of sharp nipple pain I've been super careful about her latch. Pumping is painful too. Nothing about our routines have changed. Milk output is typical for me.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Hi, I have a nasty cold/sinus infection and am EPing for a 3 month old. I think my supply is pretty well established at this point, but as a FTM I’m not sure what my body is going to do moving forward. I keep reading that cold medication will dry up milk supply, and I wanted to hear what others’ experiences have been. If you took something while breastfeeding did it dry you up? Was it permanent or temporary? Or did you find something that helped without impacting your supply? I’ve been drinking lots of tea with lemon and honey and trying to sleep as much as I can with a young infant, but it isn’t making a dent in my cold. Any advice is welcome, TIA!

If you had mastitis once, did it come back again?

I had pretty bad case of mastitis about two weeks ago and just finished my antibiotic. I am REALLY paranoid about getting it again because it was truly awful and took awhile to get on an antibiotic that worked, I had to have a breast ultrasound, etc. I'm concerned because I never knew I had a clogged duct to begin with (and I am familiar with them from my previous babies). I could never feel where it was, but as the mastitis got worse my whole left side of my breast was red, hot, inflamed. It's better now but I still feel like my breast is a bit sore. I can't feel a plugged duct but I am worried it's still blocked and I can't feel it and I'll get mastitis again. If you had mastitis did it come back? What do I do for a blocked duct if I can't tell if there is one or not?

Backstory: Breastfed my first son for 16 months with Mastitis around 6 months old once.
DS2 is now 4.5 months and has been breastfed when i'm home and only bottle fed breastmilk at daycare. Have not introduced him to anything else yet.

Problem: My one breast is extremely itching all the time. Sometime it's not so bad, and other times I can't stand it. itching feels deep and when my son latches it almost feels relieved?? but as soon as he's done it itches again. No pain, no abnormal redness or sores/blisters. Doesn't look cracked. Pumping makes it itch more. I don't leak throughout the day, and it's only the one breast.
DS2 had his 4 month checkup last week and I asked to check him for signs of Thrush and he was clear.

Any ideas, comiseration, or tips? I was looking for maybe a cream I should try that's safe?

I have a clogged duct! It started this afternoon. I’m trying to get it out. Nursing. Pumping. Hot showers. Kneading. I can’t get it to go away. I want to just go to sleep. Am I going to wake up with mastitis? I already had mastitis once when my baby was a couple weeks old. She’s 7 months now. Ugh. Do I need to stay up all night trying to get this to go away? How long do you stay in the shower trying to get the clog out?

Has anyone had a steroid shot during a time when you were nursing a baby?

I had to make a terrible decision today to treat an awful injury I'm dealing with. The doctor gave me a very low dose steroid shot. (I've spent weeks trying other remedies before getting to this.) I'm currently trying to figure out how long I will need to pump and dump and if I have enough frozen stash to cover this time.

Please let me know if you have dealt with this situation and what you did about it.

Hi all,

I’m 10m into nursing and last night I noticed some arm pit pain/soreness. It’s not excruciating but I know something is going on. This morning I still feel it and I have a few small red blotches on my breast. I dont have a fever or feel like I have the flu. Can I try to treat at home with warm/cold compress or should I be going to the clinic?

Thank you

Thankfully my mastitis cleared up pretty quickly, but despite taking a probiotic and trying to eat lots of probiotic rich foods, I've been feeling pretty awful since starting the antibiotic a week ago (which I stopped taking a few days ago with the doctor's blessing since I was feeling so yuck). Between an hour and two hours after I eat, I get horrible stomachaches and feel like vomiting. It tends to come quickly and only last an hour or so before going away quickly, but i feel pretty horrible. TMI, stool is also a bit looser than normal, but not to the extreme.

I haven't taken an antibiotic in like ten years, anyone else have this experience after taking an antibiotic for mastitis (or anything else) and have it resolve on its own, or do I need to be worried about seeing a doctor?

How long did it take to feel better once started on antibiotics? Any side effects of the antibiotics?

It's been a rough and sleepless week with LO - maybe a wonder week or a relapse of reflux. Now I have a fever/chills and have had several clogged ducts over the past few days despite being religious about the sunflower lecithin and working them out, so I think mastitis is the most likely culprit. Ugh, I was so looking forward to breastfeeding getting easier once we got past the six week mark... hopefully we'll get there eventually.

So I have a clogged milk pour, I have had baby nurse only on that side, pumped, heated washcloth, epsom salt and warm water... I even went to the OBGYN and he really didn't have much to say as he said it wasn't infected. BUT IT HURTS!!!!! Especially when I nurse. I have tried to peel off the skin and get the clog out, but ouch!

Does anyone have a way to get rid of this! The baby was able to get rid of one of them (I had two), but the big one just won't go away and its hurts like nobody's business! And now that side is really low producing when I pump. EKKK

Can anyone help a mama out?

Looking for support, hope and info related to the above topic, and acid reflux.

LO got her lip and tongue tie clipped yesterday (she's 4 weeks on sunday). She's been fussier and more uncomfortable since she got it done and I'm just a ball of worry.

I know the pediatric dentist said the procedure may or may not improve her acid reflux. So I'm hoping for the best but I'm also struggling with oversupply.

I've been using some tips i read about for the over supply, such as nursing her elevated and doing block feedings but I haven't been keeping up the best or been the most consistent.

Anyone else dealt with these problems all together like this? I'm wondering how much my oversupply may be contributing.

If you did get your LO's lip and tongue tie done, how long did it take to see improvement in the reflux?

I am nearing the end of nursing and hoping to fully wean by the end of September. We are down to one nursing session at 6:30am (to be weaned off by next Tuesday) and one at bedtime. We have been on this schedule pretty much since the end of June. Since mid-July I've been battling (on and off) a cut/crack on my nipple. It is on the underside where my nipple joins my aerola I guess. When I nurse and it's cracked...OWWWWW it hurts so bad. I do have some flaking on the skin below it - but I've been using a fair amount of lanolin...so I don't know if that has anything to do with things.

My DS doesn't have any signs of thrush in his mouth. But everytime I google what is going on with me that is all I can find. Also - my cracks are not on the top of the nipple which is also what seems to be most common on google.

Anyone have this happen? I can't imagine that if it was thrush for 1+ months that it wouldn't a) have gotten worse on me and b) gotten to the white spots in mouth stage for DS..................right?

Oh Hive.....I am hoping for some advice! I was really hoping to end this BF journey on a pleasant note!

Thanks :)

I have been experiencing severe morning sickness the last couple of weeks; I am currently 10.5 weeks pregnant. My doctor prescribed Diclectin, which is the only morning sickness medication regularly prescribed for pregnant women in Canada. I didn't take anything for MS during my first pregnancy, but am finding it difficult to manage my toddler, being sick, even with DH doing more than his fair share. My husband was the one who picked the prescription up, and didn't mention that I was still breasfeeding. I know it is pregnancy safe, but am not sure how safe it is for my toddler. Motherisk is only open weekdays until 5, as is my pharmacy, so I can't get any official answers until Monday. Has anyone else been in my situation, been provided Diclectin while breasfeeding?

I have been EBF my son successfully for almost 9 months but lately since back at work and pumping, my right boob is such a slacker! It only outputs half the milk the other does. Which leads to clogged ducts and a wicked case of matitis (8.5 months in WTF)
Any advice on how to get the milk flowing and reduce clogs/mastitis? I can tell LO gets frustrated with it which leads to a vicious cycle. I can only pump 1-2 times during my 8 hour teaching day... I eat oats, exercise and pound water.

In the last two days or so, I've started getting a burning pain in one of my nipples. It persists even while I'm not nursing and feels sore when I (or my shirt) touch it. My son has a white tongue, but he always has and I figured it was just milk residue. No white in the cheeks or on the gums. Can you have thrush pain on only one side? I would think it would be on both since he eats equally from both sides, but maybe it's just starting? Anyone experience this? I haven't had any pain breastfeeding since the very first few days, so it's weird that it's popping up again now (my son is 6.5 weeks). No cracks, dryness or itchiness for me, really just the pain and his white tongue are the only symptoms.

I'm currently 9.5 months post partum, and seems like my first period is coming :crying: I've been exclusively breastfeeding and in the last two weeks I have had some breakthrough bleeding/spotting for a day, and then back to nothing. It seems my period is finally on its way now though, and I'm dreading it - with DD1 it was like the floodgates of hell opened up, but she was formula fed and I'm wondering if it might be different this time.

Any BF mammas out there to tell me about your first post partum period while exclusively breastfeeding? I'm wondering if it might be a light period due to the BF hormones, or if I'm about to experience hell unleashed again

I was about to thaw out this bag of milk when I noticed this small burst at the seams, about 1cm long.... it must have opened towards the end of the freezing process, since there was no leakage that I could see. Is this safe to feed or no, you think? I mean, since there is this opening, the milk was not fully sealed/sterile I guess, but gosh, I'd hate to waste 6oz from only a month ago.... I've never had a bag open like this before so I don't know if it's an issue. LO is 6.5mo.

I finally decided to take amoxicillin for my never ending sinus infection- and they are working, hooray! I know they are safe for breastfeeding, but to expect some weird poop. Only thing is my 6 month old also just started solids so of course poop is already "weird".

She's been extra fussy this week, but there is a lot going on- still teething, starting solids and getting a little backed up from that, and a developmental leap, since she is super close to full crawling. I'm giving her prunes and other P foods mostly, and mixing some probiotics in most days.

So if you went in amoxicillin while breastfeeding, how did it affect your baby? I'm more just curious what effect it could behaving mixed in with everything else- I'm halfway through the course and needed them so no changing that.

We had a party for our son this past Sunday, so I didn't pump or nursed him for 6 hours on the left breast. When I'm at work, I usually go 5-6 hours before pumping too, so it shouldn't be that unusual. So Sunday night, I felt pain on the left side of the left breast. I nursed him mostly on that breast that night and Monday night is when I noticed a big tender ball when I'm turned to the left side (nursing him) and cupping the breast around that area, I can feel a ball like lump. It is painful when squeezed. I've massaged it towards the nipple area and continue to do so when nursing him, it's still there.

To further describe, I would hold the breast starting in the inner part of the breast and with my thumb and index/middle finger on opposite sides, gently swirl around.
I know plugged ducts can feel vastly different occurring at different times and different to each women. Does what I'm describing sound like a plugged duct? how do we determine a plugged duct from a breast cancer lump?
During the early weeks of nursing, I've experienced engorgement and some plugged ducts but it didn't feel like this one. It's usually on one side, this one as mentioned above thumb and index finger on opposite side, squeeze it together I can feel a round lump. I'll give it 2 more days...before totally freaking out and going to get it checked out.

I've been feeling achy all day and my breast feels like it's burning/irritated but is not really red. I emailed my OB through their portal and they said since I did not have a fever of 100.5 or higher and my breast wasn't red that it's not mastitis and to continue with pumping and nursing.
Now I have a fever that fluctuates between 100.5 and 102. I took ibuprofen and that does not seem to have helped. I emailed my doctor through their portal again but since it's after hours I do not think they'll respond till tomorrow morning.
Would you try to calling the after hours number or going to urgent care or would you wait it out till you get a response from them? They responded pretty quickly today during working hours. I would feel bad bothering them about this after hours if it's not mastitis
My LO is 9 weeks old and has been sleeping a 6 hour stretch at night the past couple of nights. Would you recommend pumping every 2-3 around the clock to try to get rid of this?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm on day 2 of pain in left breast- not in my nipple, just deeper. It happens when LO is nursing (not every time) and sometimes just hurts randomly (like if I'm not wearing a bra and lean forward). My OB called in a prescription for Diflucan, but I don't know if I need to fill it. Didn't see any white in LO's mouth this morning. I had thrush with DD1 but don't really remember. Everything I see on Dr. Google indicates nipple pain and pain in both breasts... thoughts? Should I get Rx filled and treat as thrush (boiling and sterilizing)? Or wait it out.

Have you noticed what you eat affecting baby much? How quickly? Does it matter if you eat gassy foods (broccoli, Brussels sprouts) a couple of days in a row? I guess I did have kind of a lot of both for a few days, and G (3.5 months) just had a crazy crying for, very unlike her. And had some massive farts in between. She also has a bad runny nose so I'm sure there is a lot of mucous in her little tummy.

So, I'll be staying away from those foods for a while. She doesn't care for beans either...

Has anyone dealt with one of these that didn't have pain? I noticed I've had one for a while, it doesn't hurt or anything, I just don't know if it's causing an issue for LO?

I'm going to ask my dr about it but I don't go see her for another couple of weeks..

Anyone out there have any advice/tips about trying to diet a bit while still breastfeeding?

I'm still BFing my 5 month old and plan on nursing for a while, we both love it. I supplement with a bottle of formula some days as my supply isn't great but I pump 3x a day at work, and still nurse him at home and all weekend...

I am ravenous still - I feel like my appetite is out of control! I'd like to lose some weight, 10 lbs maybe, but am nervous to hurt my already not-great-supply. Do I just need to wait? What have you mama's had success doing? What is a good calorie goal while nursing?

I'd like to work out, but, with two kids & a full time job, I'm having a hard time carving that time out for myself.

I'm finding it much harder to lose the belly after this second baby than with the first, but I also feel like I'm SO much more hungry than I usually am.

THX!

I've seen a few mama's have posted this on the interweb but not much real information except that BFing sites say strep can cause mastitis. Does that mean the same bacteria that causes strep throat can cause mastitis?

I think DD (age 3) has/had strep throat. DS, my nursing baby, 8 mo, has no symptoms. I have a call in to the doctor about swabbing.

I have nipple pain on one side and yesterday had a fever and exhaustion. There's no red mark and I can't feel any clog. I've read that you can get mastitis from strep. It seems far fetched (but possible) that my daughter's unconfirmed strep would pass to my son and then to my nipple.

Not sure where to go from here. I emailed LO's doc about swabs. I guess I should tell the OB my nipple hurts but do I tell him my crazy theory?

What are some meds used for seasonal allergies that are safe to use while breastfeeding?
I don't want anything that will transfer to baby or dry me up.

I have some reoccuring symptoms that my doctor thinks might be due to seasonal allergies. Awaiting bloodwork before taking anything but just curious.

My older LO has been weaned for 6+ months and I'm only 11 weeks, but I feel uncomfortably engorged - really sore and really full. Has this happened to anyone else?
